Hey everyone,
Just bought my first 4Runner and couldn't be happier. I tore my Achilles tendon playing basketball 3 months ago and after a month of not being able to do much of anything, I decided I wanted to be a lot more active and adventurous as soon as I recover. I have talked my fiancé into taking an overland surf trip to Coast Rica the summer of 2015 and a third gen 4Runner seemed to be the perfect vehicle to do it in.
I live in Santa Barbara and see them everywhere but there were no 4wd ones to be found that I liked. After searching for a month I found a 97 black limited 4x4 with the locking rear diff and 154,00 miles for $5500. I drove about 120 miles and bought it on the spot. Aside from a couple scratches, the car is great. Everything works and it is clean inside and out. The thing is just bada$$. I have already taken off the running boards and just put in an external transmission cooler last weekend because I had heard about the horrible strawberry milkshakes. If anyone has any advice on overlanding mods, let me know!
