Just got my first 'runner, 85 (pic)

Figured I needed an SUV, did some research and gathered that a solid axle 22re would be the one for me so.... Went out and found me one! (Just got it today, have to wait till tomorrow or sat to bring it home). Only took me two days to find one (thanks craig's list). This is my second car not my daily.

Motor has about 20k or 2yrs on the rebuild, body has about 290k on it, don't know much else about the history cept that the rear diff was fixed/serviced (the owner was not a car guy).

Things i know it will need asap: brakes...they lock up at slow speed when you step on the pedal then the pedal goes to the floor. i'm thinking cleaning or rebuilding/replacing the calipers and looking at the master? what do you suggest?

Also, tranny goes hard into first and grinds into reverse. no idea what to do there cept take it to a tranny shop. and i think it slips up hills and to me (never drove a 4runner before) the clutch pedal has short travel.

Anyways, here is a pic.... oh ya, i'm also looking to trade for a stock set of oem toyota rims/tires. and i know you'll ask so i'll tell you.... i paid less for it then i've seen people sell the SAS kits for.

Thanks guys, like your trucks too! I'm definately painting my rims black too!

So no advice on the tranny from anyone huh? Well, update from my end... it will not shift into any gear when the car is running! I have to shift into first when its off, then start with clutch in and once driveing it will reluctantly go into second, etc. I have no reverse anymore, period.

Hmmm.... suggestions? i don't think its the clutch cuz then it should go into gear fine but just not drive and this is the opposite happening.

I had the same transmition problem. i changed the slave
and the master cyl for the clutch. that didnt work.
I found the clutch peddle mount was ripping off of the firewall
cheap ass metal! so it didnt have enough to engange the clutch
so i welded it all up and now it works fine. that was just
my problem. but some thing to look at.

i'm not quite sure i would paint the rims black. mine are the real bead lockers, and i would think only 125 dollars each. its up to you but i wouldnt think of painting rims. good luck, and post more pics so we can see how it goes. as for the tranny, i have no idea. i have a 5speed, and in my other 4runner well its a 2000 model and no tranny problems. sorry.

ahh...well, the tranny thing is a bit of a mystery. i'll keep you all updated. as for the rims... i just like the look of black rims (my other car has the oem alloys painted and it looks grt, its 525i on staggered 17's). i like bead locks but really have no use for them so for me the black is just an esthetic. my other rims were done professionaly but this truck is rough.... dents, some rust, etc... so i think i ratttle can job on the rims (after cleaning and scuffing) would be ok.
