layer of glass. I have to say, with one layer of glass, this thing was very strong. I traced out the shape of the OEM enclosure on to some 3/4" MDF. Then I was going to add one or two more layers of glass on the inside of the mold and then attach it to the MDF face plate.
BUt, after letting this set up for a few hours, I spent the next hour try to get the OEM enclosure out of the shell. I finally got it out, did a test fit, and the fiberglass enclosure was way too large. I guess the only way to possibly make this work is to use this form as a negative mold and then make successively smaller forms.....way too much work for me.....who needs cargo space anyway. Time for some MDF and a W7

Have you given any thought at the type of box I have? I will be creating another box for my wife's Runner in the next few months. I think I will shrink her box a tad, so that she has room for the outlit. If you would like I will re-take the measurements of my box and post it, if you are intrested in re-creating it.

Did you remove/modify the cover to the panel area? What sub are you using and do you know the mounting depth.

The first layer is thick tinfoil around the enclosure for protection...glass won't stick to it. The next layer is an old t-shirt for the first layer. I applied a layer of resin to the shirt....this acts as a basic form to apply glass to....but does not really add any strength to the mold. Then I added a layer of glass matting and resin to the entire mold. So by time you have the tinfoil, t-shirt, resin, glass, more resin.....it gets thick quick. I think if I tried to just do the t-shirt mold and then remove the OEM enclosure, it probably would not have held its form. Make sense?
BTW, then entire project was only about $25.
did anyone find out how much the rear panel would cost?...because i'm thinking of modifying one like the non jbl system rear panel...4runners with the non-jbl system actually have a little pocket which can open and close in the place of the jbl amp and sub. it may be a good place to place an amp or modify it for a sub enclosure.
