Just installed my AVS AeroSkin Hood Protector

Can anyone confirm how this is mounted? Does the adhesive go directly on the painted hood?

NVM...I used my brain to find the install manual. In case anyone else is wondering, the adhesive does mount directly to the painted hood

I've had the bug shield on for about 1.5 years and peeled it of with no issues to the paint. I now have 3m clear bra on that section of the hood which I like much better.

I called WeatherTech to see if they had a hood protector/bug shield for a 16 4runner and they said they did. Ordered it over the phone right away and received the low-profile skin instead.

Did more research on the bug shields and I found that most people didnt find them very useful.

So instead of the hassle of returning the WeatherTech skin, I just put it on last week. Figured it'll at least protect the hood. Took about 15min trying to make sure it goes on evenly.

I'm happy with it!

Go with the standard AVS visor because it doesn't even TOUCH the hood. It just bolts to the underside of the hood (no drilling or anything). That way You don't have to worry about messy dirty/grimey tape on the front of your hood and the possibility of it flying off if the adhesive gets too dirty. Mine is super clean, low profile and looks good too.

It's kinda funny as the two chips on my hood would have been protected by this. So I guess I am going to be buying this on Monday.

Is this the Avs bugflector 25053? Per Amazon, it doesn't for 2016 4runners but the reviews contradict that.

And just to add a little color to this tread, AVS deflector 25053 on 16 TE. It does wrap around most of the underside of the hood. Took 3 tries at the dealership to get this one.

When you buy it, bring a Philips screwdriver with you. It's easier to install it on the spot than trying to fit the box in the back.

Hey [MENTION=144711]IggyB[/MENTION] - Do you know what the difference is between the "Bugflector" and "Bugflector II"? I see the Bugflector II (#25053) on Amazon but it says it doesn't fit my car (2016). Based on what you posted, it looks like it actually does despite it maybe being originally only intended for 2010-2013 4Runners. The regular Bugflector (non II) is #23071 and it does say it will fit my car but I'm not sure what the difference was. Is there a reason you went for the II instead of the original?

I don't know what the difference is between them is. 25053 definitely fits a 16T4R.

I wanted a hood deflector that wrapped around the hood from underneath and 25053 does that. There's also enough space between the deflector and the hood that negates the need for little rubber bumpers to be installed.

so do these actually deflect bugs away from the windshield or are they just more of a cosmetic piece that helps protect the front of the hood

Question to OP or anyone here..... I love the look of this thing but am curious if it traps water - I noticed it does not have 3M tape continuously around all edges....mostly but not all...

Does the inner leading edge rub onto the hood or does the 3m tape prevent that and allow enough buffer?
