Just Joined the 4Runner Club, Lift question

After driving my girlfriends 2WD 2001 4runner, I had to get one of my own. I fell in love with them instantly. Hands down the most reliable car ever, will be buried in my 4runner. Currently have been doing a ton of research on a 3inch lift kit for my new 2000 4WD SR5. Was just wondering if this combination will work. Thanks everyone!

LT285 /75 R16

+ 16x8 4.50" BS 6x139.7 wheels.

Welcome...lots of information on this site and helpful members. Enter your questions in the SEARCH box. All the info and more to get you done usually covered multiple times...other than maybe one or two specific questions. FYI... Bilstein does not provide front rubber grommets or washers. They expect you to use your old junk or buy new stuff on your own.

It will work. Tires that big will rub when making VERY sharp turns.

You can remedy that by taking the 2 front wheels off, take the wheel well plastic off, and HAMMER the pinch weld on the wheel well.

Or you can get a body lift.

So I was first considering the bf Goodrich at terrain 265/75/16. I am scared if I use a 32" tire, with a 3" lift that too much wheel gap and it can start to look off balance from an aesthetic standpoint. I am not going to be doing much off roading, if any. Thank you everyone for the input! Everyone in this forum is always helping one another and giving good ideas. It is awesome.

If you're not doing off roading then 32s will be better for economy but if you don't care then do 33s because you shouldn't rub on pavement. I've never rubbed anyway.

32's dont look that off with a 3" lift. I felt stock after a year or so on a 3" lift. Not till I added a body lift did it really look lifted and thats when a 32 looks a little small.

33's will run just fine and that back spacing will help them clear the UCA.

If you get a good alignment and they push your LCA's forward to get your caster back you should also not rub at the pinchweld/firewall area of the wheel well. But the front bumper valence will need some slight trimming.

I'm on the side that 265/75's are plenty big enough if they have an aggressive enough look as well as a nice backspacing to widen the stance. You say you're not doing much off roading, so is this your DD? If so, how much do you use it? If not much, I'd say go for the 285's. But if you drive it frequently, I'd highly suggest looking into the 265/75's. 285's are going to kill your power as well as your mpg's.
 
I thank everyone for all the suggestions. I cannot say enough how much I appreciate everyone in here for their opinions. But after long consideration, I am going to go with the Bilstein B8 5100 for the front and the rear. Leaving it with a 2.3 in the front and a 2 in the back with 265/17/16 BF Goodrich A/T KO2 tire. I cannot wait! I am not going to be doing a lot of off roading, so I believe this combination could give me the smoothest ride and help on the gas.

Just so you can get a look, I'm running 265/75/16. I started at 285, and sold them and went down to the 265, IMO the runner doesn't feel as sluggish now, and I can go everywhere that I could with the 285. And if you are considering the BFG AT, take a look at the General Grabber AT2, almost the same, but much cheaper.

When you finally make a purchase of lift components, check out the video [MENTION=102606]infamousRNR[/MENTION] and I made installing a Toytec lift for [MENTION=146244]phokingchink[/MENTION]. It covers pretty much everything you'd want to replace doing a lift on one of our rigs.

I must be the odd ball here. But if you are going to stick with a 265/75/16 why lift it? They will fit fine stock with minor rubbing at full lock. You will keep a lower center of gravity for daily driving and less stress on ball joints.

Plus one for the Generals. Here are mine I installed this weekend

They are 285/75 on 16" wheel and Sonoran lift installed and I did rub . See pic

Finally got my rims and tires. Bf Goodrich AT KO2s 265/17/16's on my new Stealth F5 rims are barely rubbing right now before the lift. I wish I would of known for whatever reason Toyota does not make dust caps for rear axles..
