Newbie here- just joined the t4r club last Sat. Went for the silver V8 Sport Edition with sunroof, double-decker cargo, floor mats and netting, DRL, alarm system, and a few other minor options added on. It looks just like the vehicle that's in the first few pages of the 4runner brochure.
Super satisfied with the truck so far. Bought it for a lot of the same reasons people have discussed here- the reliability, driveability, great V8 engine, and awesome looks. The fact that I paid just a hair over $30,000 before taxes and registration certainly didn't hurt matters.
Despite Toyota's second-to-none reputation for reliability, even the 4Runner will have issues from time to time. One of the great things about this (and other automotive) boards is the community to discuss problems to see if they are systematic or random in nature. Thus far, I have not experienced any of the more commonly reported problems- whether it's the sulpher smell, or the vibration in the steering at 1500-2000 RPM range. I obviously hope to avoid them altogether, but it's nice to know where to go for answers in case complications arise.
I'm thinking about installing leather seats since the Sport Edition did not come with it. I live in manhattan, so if anyone knows of someone in the area who does a great job at a reasonable price, please let me know.
