Just Ordered GY Wrangler Silent Armors

So I just ordered 4 Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors in 265/70/17. I realize now that I should have ordered 5, but I will order one for the spare soon. I got them from Sam's Club for $168/tire and I'll get a $20/rebate per tire in the mail. I'll let you know what I think once I get some testing time in them. I'll post some pics as well.

I have had mine on for about a month now and have to say that these are some mighty fine tires.

It took me a bit of getting used to the new size as it looked a bit awkward, but I have come to think that they look great.

Traction is great here too, very responsive tire and I feel good when I take the S-curves on my work route with a bit more speed than I should.

I have not been able to test them out when it has been raining yet though. Nor has it snowed yet. I am eagerly awaiting both opportunities.

The tread of these bad boys is aggressive, but the ride is very smooth. I almost want to say that they are quieter than the OEM Dunlops that came on my Sport. Exceptional ride, and the have teh Mountain/snowflake symbol, so those little "dustings" you get in Wisconsi ought to be nothing for them. We'll see how they do in a month or so when the white stuff starts falling.
 
I have a mild drop in mileage that has borne out to be around 1 - 1.5 mpg.

Not that bad considering the tread pattern and materilas as well as the nature of the tire.

Explains the drop in mpg.

I switched mine with in 50 miles , so I never noticed any difference. I still get 16+ city/rural driving per the comp. average and manual miles traveled per gallons used ( the old fashioned way...lol) and thats not actually factoring the add'l miles traveled since I have bigger tires than before . The odo. will show less miles traveled than you actually did due to the bigger tires.

Smart move the 65's looks so dinky/whimpy on these thing's even though it's a 1" difference. + gives you an add'l 1/2" clearance. All I need to do is bring the nose up an inch and she will look just a slight bit different than stock. Exactly perfect for me.

Did you get P or C rated ? I like the ride of P rated but the C rated will give you an add'l 3/32 of tread depth over the P . I wonder how the C rides compared to the P ?

Did you get them yet ?? They are supposed to be severe weather rated for snow. Mountain/snowflake symbol. I talked to a guy who put Revos on his FJ and now swapped to those and loves them off road.

P or C's ?
 
I went with the P's, and have not received the call from Sam's Club yet. I may have to give them a call today.

I bought these again about 2 weeks ago and they were $149 per tire for the c ply at discount tire company. Just thought I would let everyone know.
 
My most recent report........Not much, but it is a take on these bad boys.

We just got about 1.5 inches of snow here in Mass. today and I was out tooling around in my baby tonight to go shopping.

Took the Runner out on the road which is...........................NOT smooth and then onto the dirt road up the street. Tires handled extremely well on the road with great traction and braking. It was drizzling out and the road and snow was getting slick since it was approaching freezing - I think the thermometer said it was 34 degrees.

Great braking, great traction, and the snow, slush, and early ice did not stick in the treads at all.

Not a great trial since it was just a wee bit of snow, but if it is an indication of what a good snow storm will be like I will look forward to playing again.

Good to know , I think new tires will be an option soon for me. I was also out in about 2" of snow last night with my Revos ( 36k ) on them. Although they handled road driving I was off on a deserted road and trying some braking techniques to see how much bit the tires had left. I was at a really slow speed 10 mph and they took a long time to stop with the anti-locks going crazy .
 
Yeah I was on the dirt road and going about 10 - 20 and slammed teh brakes on many times and the truck stayed straight and true every time.

I even gunned it a few times (needed to fill up on fuel anyway) to intentionally spin the tires and never lost traction or felt the truck sway at all. Granted the tires only have 1,000 miles on them, but I was pretty impressed overall.

No snow in the forecast yet either, dammit.

Winter wheeling is my favorite ! This 2" was a little teaser.
