Just picked up my first 4Runner

Hello everyone. I have wanted a 4Runner for quite awhile now and I finally got one. I picked up a 2001 SR5 (2wd) with 60k miles on it ($10k if you're wondering), it's in great shape, I bought it from a dealership but you can tell the old owners took care of it. The only issue with it is the clear coat is thinning and turning white a little on the roof and the hood (so. Cal desert is brutal on paint jobs).

I've never been as excited about a vehicle as I am with this one so I want to do my best to take good care of it so it will last a long time. I've been trying (though maybe not as diligently as I could have) to find information about what, if any, issues to expect from a 2001 4Runner at this mileage and in the future. I'll definitely be combing these forums as they look to be a goldmine of information but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Only the 4wd SR5's had the 5star in those years. The 2wd had the 3 spokes.

Thanks everyone. I live in Ridgecrest CA, it's a little desert/military town north of Barstow. I really don't know what to do to it other than a new sound system, any suggestions? If it was a 4wd (ive been told this town is surrounded by a 4x4's wet dream) there would be a lift and some bigger meats.

Would love to hear some ideas though from the pro's. I'll be doing a lot of camping and fishing with this rig. One of the reasons why I got this is so I could forgo tent camping and sleep inside. So i'd like to put a couple small creature comforts in the back, maybe a small monitor that swings out from the little cargo cubby, something to that affect.

Don't let the 2wd side hold you back. These things are quite capable in 2wd, especially with a little extra help be it tires, lift, locker, etc etc.

Thats good to know. I don't plan on doing any heavy duty off roading but there are plenty of places in the desert around here i'd like to explore that would be perfect for the 4Runner.

Nice looking ride. If it was taken care of and you take care of it you should get lots of care free miles. Don't forget to change the timing belt at 90k.
