Just purchased 2001 4runner - need suggestions

Hi,

1st excuse me for all these questions....

I am so glad i found this forum, i myself just picked up a 2001 4runner 2 Wheel Drive Limited with low miles - 1 owner. It does need a bit of TLC cosmetically only but with your guys help I will get it in top shape. I intend to pull my new 3 seater Jetski with it. I have an 03 Matrix XR for daily driving but this will be the weekend biking and lake SUV. I have owned 3 Pathfinders in the past 2000 through 2002 but I am more excited about this 2001 purchase....

I picked it from dealer ( $8600 out the door with 86K only) - 1 Owner accident free according to car fax.

What are the most important things that I need to take care off at this mileage 88K - Car drives fine and no issues or any engine lights on....
What of the timing belt, is it time to replace it with the water pump? The leather from the driver side has cuts and scraps from normal use how do I go on replacing that part? Any aftermarket stores you can point me to or should I go to junkyard as well....

The inside is dirty, the leather has not been cleaned (looks old and smells old) so i need a good cleaner suggestion....

Here is what I did purchase so far

1- 4 corner clear lenses lights from Ebay (to replace the chipped ones)
2- I was lucky to find same color mirror from Junkyard 20 miles away or so from Dallas (Mirror housing was broken)

After seeing the pictures here, I WANT A LIFT....not because I will do offroads but i like the look of it...I am open to suggestions

-----OME 881's w/ top plate spacers and 890's----- do I need a differential drop (on 2W drive?) Where should I purchase and how much is it with installation if i also need tires bigger tires to complement the lift?

There are other much smarter people here than me, but....

People usually change out the water pump when they do the timing belt service for convenience because its easy to get do during that - that is recommended at 90k miles, and usually costs 6-800 at a dealership.

Your most economical choice to fix your seats would be seat covers. There is a thread with someones new Wet Okoles that have the TRD or Toyota logo embroidered on them that look STUNNING. Recovering leather seats is expensive in comparison.

You will not need a diff drop. Those are designed for front differentials, which 2wd do not have. The 890/881 combo is good, but keep in mind it will be firmer than stock. I would not bother with top plate spacers.

That is correct, 90,000 miles is the time for a timing belt. I have read that other members go further before changing the belt, some go over 200,000. The engine is a non-interference engine, meaning if it breaks, it does not bend your valves. I decided to go a little further in my 2001. I thought of changing it at 120,000 miles, but I now have 126,000 miles. I do plan on getting the belt done this summer.

Unless you have the history I would change all fluids. - radiator, oil, transmission, power steering, brake and rear diff. I would also do the plugs fairly soon and clean the MAF sensor. None of these are that hard to do.

Well, I am going to start with the body shop, fix that ugly dent in the back bumper, install the new mirror and the chipped lenses with the ebay ones coming soon in the mail.

Those seats are REALLY nice, but I want leather seats for the lake (wet suit and towels will not go well with cloth seats)....I will call the junkyard, last time i was there, the sales rep told me they have the seat leather for $100, but I didn't know if it was in good shape or not.....I am thinking of buying it and I will have some one stitch just the bad areas....hopefully that plan works

I will defiantly do the oil changes soon, I haven't driven it much yet as I am waiting for the plates and registration paperwork....

I want someone who actually have a good lift installed and happy with it for everyday highway use....on the same model and give me the part names and numbers and store he purchased this lift from and cost installed...do i need to buy new shocks as well? Please a detailed explanation is what I am looking for for all the parts needed. I am keeping my rims BTW.
Oh and what about the air filter, I see many pictures with aftermarket ones, which one do you recommend?

There are many, many threads out there that answer those exact questions. Search. If you have a specific question, we will be happy to answer, but if you're asking us to design and research your whole lift for you.. uh no.
