Just purchased a GX470

Hi Guys, We have a 2001 4runner Limited, it is a little small for us so, we purchased a GX. We take delivery next weekend. It was purchased from a Lexus dealer and was not yet "gone through".

What accessories website (s) should I be looking at to set it up for some off roading?

Congrat's. It's a 4 runner on steroids. A bit bulkier, perhaps, but nice.

Yes, I will post up photos once we have picked it up. It was purchased it from South Coast Lexus. They just received it into inventory, It gets a go through and fluids, brakes, Etc, as needed.

That's not even close to true. The 4.6 has at least 30 more horsepower than 4.7. Check your facts bro.

It makes those pony's at a much higher RPM, so not a pleasant a driver. Yes, slightly more efficient, and makes more power, but you have to wind it up to get those pony's. You drive torque, not HP. The torque is much more linear with the 4.7, making it a nicer driver. I have driven both, and much prefer the 4.7 over the 4.6.

I completely agree with this. I've owned a GX470 and now a GX460 and the 4.6 feels gutless compared to the 4.7 in the bottom end.

I'd give up a bit of the low end grunt of the 4.7 for some fuel economy. And I've got the '04 spec, non-vvti version that makes less power to start with.

I don't think there is much difference in fuel economy. The difference in fuel economy will be with the feet, both of them. They control fuel economy more than anything else. I would guess that the extra low end torque of the 4.7, if driven right, in the real world, would give at least equal if not better fuel economy. Lead feet cost a lot. brakes, tires, gas and insurance. The heavier the car, the more it matters. Want to race around, buy an appropriate vehicle, take it to the track, don't buy a pick up truck in a tuxedo, like the GX. I find it actually pretty efficient for a heavy car with the capability it has.

Since no one has actually answered the OP... the chassis is the same as the 4runner any skidplate or slider made for the 4runner will fit the gx. Remember these vehicles came with and without xreas so choose accordingly.

I took mine on 3 wheels a few times during one outing all I did was take off the running boards... that have me 6 more inches of clearance. At points I was fairing better tha model year pickups with factory locking rear axels

The late model ones really need the skid plate for the gas tank. Then they NEED to break all that ugly worthless plastic. Runing boards, front bumper etc, so they can be replaced with nice looking useful stuff...…..Just sayin' :biggrin1:

Depending on mileage you will need to look at the front suspension and check LCA and UCA bushings. At higher mileage rubber starts to deteriorate. That will dictate what needs to changed up front. I would get rid of the running boards right away, and get some good tires. Do the lift and tires at the same time or you will be wanting new tires right after you lift. Metaltech has ever single thing you need.
