No need to disconnect the battery. If you pull the 20amp EFI fuse for a few minutes if that'll reset the computer. Resetting doesn't seem to be necessary but it won't hurt...

Im going to give this a shot. I keep a running log of my MPG so it will be interesting to see what the outcome is.

Finally got around to doing this tonight. Don't ask me why I waited so long. It only took me 15 minutes and I was able to clean my MAF sensor at the same time.
I immediately noticed improved throttle response. Too early to tell if MPG's have increased but I can only assume that it will under the same driving conditions. I'm glad I did this mod and am pissed that I waited so long. Best part about this mod.....it's FREE!!!

WOW your not kiddding. I just did this this morning took all of 15 min. I just followed J.A.s post on the how to but I also removed the 20amp EFI fuse (as per CJ3flyer) for the duration of the extraction. All I can say is that she seems to be breathing a whole lot better and there is most Definately a big jump in throttle responce and smoothness. I just did this this morning so ill report MPG later in the week. Thanks for all the help fellas, wish I had the nuts to do this sooner!
Nope, and I drove around with the radio off, windows closed, and no A/C.

Just remove my HCF, I broke one corner using a flat screw driver since I don't have a chisel and pulled it while other rivets just unsnaped.
then drove 12mi in the freeway.
Throttle response improved!:bravo:
There is a part no., maybe we can just buy a replacement should it be required during inspections.

Well that makes sense because I usually keep the A/C on, but its been nice here so Ive left it off.

Hello all,
I have been reading the posts in here for quite awhile and did not exactly post anything until I have facts on my hand. I took that crazy thing out in 2 minutes from opening the hood to closing it.
Noticed immediately a much more subtle idle with a bit lower rpm. Throttle response was almost instant when you step on it. After driving it for a couple of miles, I checked the ave mpg and it was at 18.4 mpg from 17.2 with the hydrocarbon filter ( an increase of 1.2mpg! not bad huh?)
Over the weekend, we went to Bakersfield CA. Normally this would be a 3/4 tank of gas going back and forth from Santa Monica. Lo and behold, when we got back, my tank was just a little less than half. The Ave mpg on the monitor was at 21.2mpg.
I would say my average speed was 70 - 75 mph with my rpm playing at the 2k mark. I'm driving a 2005 4Runner SR5 Limited V8.
I'm not saying that all V8's would be getting the same but this is what I got and am very happy with this very simple but effective mod. Does not cost you anything but 2 minutes of your time.

take the number from the avg mpg screen minus about 2.2ish and u get ur actuall mpg. i get 22.1mpg which really is around 20mpg(recalculated at the gas station, *"miles counter" divide "amount of gas in"
removing the HCF doesnt really affect mpg, just throttle response. ive always gotten around 23-22 on screen and without the HCF i get 22+ (city/hwy). been driving around 2000 miles without it.
ps i get this harmonic sound at 1500rpm (during load), also sounds kool, maybe its the trueflow xdi intake?
