Ive only had my v6 for about a week, but the screen is telling me 18mpg, and drops .1-.2 a day it seems. I wish mine said 22mpg whether I was getting that or not! I will see what its really getting when I fill up this weekend, but Ive never seen anyone say the read out was low. The truck is 100% stock, and driven in the city 95% of the time. I was hoping for a little better gas mileage.

The V6 has a long break in period. Most of the 2nd gen Tacoma guys reported better gas mileage after 5-10k miles.
In all city driving, I get around 15mpg on mine, 4WD BTW. But in mixed driving 70% highway, 30% city, I'm getting 19-20mpg.
The trip computer is about 10% optimistic.

Puled mine this morning. Clear, though subtle, increase in power availability in town and on the freeway. Enough to put a smile on my face!
Also filled up this morning and am anxious to see what the MPG results will be.
A zero cost mod made a bigger difference than the AFE filter & Mangnaflow cat back combined!!!

Sure this is a year old... but I am paying a lot less for fuel than when GWB was president. Is this something that will kick in when he's been president for 2 years? 3? 4? 8? Or are we still waiting for it to happen?
Oh, but to be on topic. I just removed mine and did the reset. I bought the thing and it was reading 4 MPG. I think they must have started it up and let it idle on the lot everyday for the month they had it. I never reset the mileage and it never got above 12 on the computer. I reset everything and removed the little filter doohicky and in a lot of driving around today I was reading between 21-23 on the computer. I have a light foot, no junk in the truck to weigh it down, and had the AC off. So far so good. Thanks for the tips guys. If I don't notice a huge difference I'll probably put the filter back in... just because I guess Toyota put it there for a reason. But knowing Toyota like I do, I'm not exactly sure if they even knew why. Haha.

All - I know this is an old thread, but it seems that the V8 4Runners see a bigger difference in this 'mod' vs. the V6's?

I am thinking of removing my HCF and cleaning my MAF. How do you reset the EFI ?? Which fuse do you pull?

When you go to to restart the truck turn the key on, count to 10 then turn to the start position or it may sputter and stall on the first attempt."

I pulled mine last weekend. I can definitely feel a slight increase in throttle response and it seems to be a little smoother throught the entire power range. I was very cynical regarding this mod and did my best to avoid the "placebo effect" and truly believe the difference is actually there.
As for the MPG, I have only used 15 tanks of gas since buying my 4runner. Out of the first 14 tanks (before HCF delete), the total avg is 19.43...with the highest ever tank being 20.01 mpg. Keep in mind these figures are from varying temperatures (70's down to 0). On my first tank after pulling the HCF, I got 20.40 mpg (Very cold temps). My point being that for some reason I got the highest ever mpg during a time when i would normally be getting the worst. Huge difference...NO...coincidence...probably. Either way, I'm being optimistic and hoping I may see a small, consistant decrease in fuel consumption.
NOTE: These are nearly full tanks (>240 miles) and not just topping off the tank every other day. Also, these are all hand calculated and increased by ~3.4% to account for the larger tire diameter (265/70/17)
Is it a huge difference?...NO...but for a free mod, its worth it.

If you really can get better MPG from removing the filter, then isn't that better for the planet too? We'd be using less fuel for our beloved T4R's and thereby emitting less into the atmosphere. Correct me if I'm wrong. BTW I love my V8 and I have also removed the filter. City MPG between 18-20, highway 20-22. Well...until my lift and tires go on next month.:lol:
