For the most part Toyota lost their creativity over 10 years ago and they love the vanilla look among their lineup (save for the FJ).

I think you have it a little backwards. The 5th gen 4runner copied the Highlander not the other way around. Take a look at any of the Highlanders from about 2008 on and you can see an unmistakeable resemblance.

I don't think it's so much Toyota "losing thier creativity" but trying for a certain "corporate look." It's like the Tundra which went from being a decent looking truck to being a silly cartoon truck in 07.

And they took that silly cartoon truck look and applied it to the Highlander, Sequoia, and 4Runner. I'm terrified to see what they do to the Tacoma. Toyota used to have good looking trucks.

I hate that commercial because the kid is really annoying. I don't really care what the highlander looks like, still better than a new jeep GC right?

now those commercials are hilarious! they (rightfully) dumb down offroading for these Jeep owners so they understand what makes a good offroad vehicle, but its like they are talking to a 4 year old !!!
