Congrats on the purchase, and you MUST post some pics!
Welcome! Where are you located because I have my old running boards I'll sell for very cheap, but they're probably too big/too expensive to ship. Otherwise leave em off! Oh and...
:worthless
PS, you mentioned just leaving the boards off. Do most folks not like them on their trucks? I assume maybe thats because they limit offroad ability?
Exactly, many of us wheel a lot and I know I would have demolished mine on rocks in no time. Taking them off makes the truck look like it sits a lot higher and I think it looks way better w/o them (less like an SUV and more like a truck). Since you don't have any boards right now, rather than buy some, I would get some nice rock sliders instead - they look way better, still give the truck a "lifted" look, but most of all, they're 100x's more functional and will protect you from body damage. I got some weld-on Trail Gear sliders for about $140/pair.
Welcome from Texas and congratulations on your wise choice of 4runners. Rock sliders are similar to nerf bars that run along the side where your running boards are, except they are made of heavy gauge steel and much, much stronger and durable, capable of being slammed into rocks, trees, etc...., with the purpose of protecting the edge of your body underside when off-roading.
