I was watching the season finally of prison break on FOX. It showed the US/Mexico border patrol in nice new 4runners. Does our border patrol use the 4runner as their patrol trucks??

Although it would be very practical to buy well-made vehicles, I think a government agency would get a lot of heat for buying a "foreign" car for their fleet.

Tahoes were shown in the top 5 for long term reliability (Yukon/Tahoe). Besides, they don't want to show the actual vehicles used by enforcement because it starts getting closer to reality instead of fiction (which means more difficulties getting this to air).

You guys might be on to something. In the show "24" there was a lot of product placement for Toyota. One guy drove a 4Runner, there was the new Rav4 as well in it.

It probably has to do with kickbacks. Movies feature specific cars because of this. Look at all the American Pie movies, in which most of the characters drove either a Toyota or Lexus (Jason Biggs' character drove a 4th gen 4Runner). In the Italian Job, the Mini's were featured and all the big shots from BMW got a special "sneak peak" at the movie.

it's either kickbacks, or who knows. In 24, I watched the old seasons on DVD during summer, and they first used Yukons and Grand Marquis, then it became all Expeditions, and the different characters each had some sort of Toyota vehicle.

For those who watch 24, here's what I know:

Secretary Heller: Avalon ( or is it just Audrey's?)
A terrorist in like season 2 or 3, the father of Behrooze: GX470

But the "gov't" exployees or staff members in the show, all drove american cars. Town Cars, Navigator, Suburban. Probably at the Borders, they must be using American cars. If they weren't then President Bush probably has a Bullet-proof LS460L on order. :lmao:
