Just wrecked my T4r!!!

Some idot wrecked my T4r!!!

Some guy was turning right to turn off then at the last second he cranked the wheel to the left and try to make an illegal u-turn at a intersection/backroad. The speedlimit was 55mph and I was traveling 40mph slowing down, light was green so I proceded, then I t- boned his rear drivers quarter panel. Everybody was fine, had my wife and my 11 month old son in the T4r and did not feel much impact. I think my 4runner might be totaled. The guy and his girlfriend apologized and admitted that it was his fault. The guy was complaining that he will lose his license after this. Now I just have to wait and see what the insurance co. will say. I did have two highway patrol officers fill out a report.

The fender was gone, ended up putting that inside the car.

Ouch!! This incident definitely sucks - big time. However, the important thing is that you and your loved ones emerged unscathed. The 4Runner "gave itself up" for you and took the brunt of the impact. The damage looks bad, of course, but is a testament to the ruggedness of the body-on-frame construction technique.

My son and I were rear-ended in my 2005 SR5 back in early 2006 and my vehicle only sustained minor damage that required replacement of the plastic rear bumper cover. The Lexus SUV that hit me and the Dodge Ram pickup truck who pushed it into me both were damaged significantly more than my Toyota.

Were I in your shoes, I would hope that the insurance company would total the vehicle and you could then have good reason to get a new one.

Nice to know you're okay and that the other guy was at fault (and even admitted it). Be sure to obtain copies of the police report ASAP - and verify that your insurance and his insurance have their copies as well. You did not mention if the other guy was summoned to court (cited) for being "at fault" in the crash, but I assume that he was if he was worried about his license.

Ouch, sry to hear dude. Most importantly, no one is hurt. Yor 4R might look bad, but I don't think it will be totaled. 2005 Sports Edition is valued at 24,290 by KBB. I just can't see that much worth of damage there, even if frame is bent...

The damage only has to be a certain preset percentage of the total replacement value, not the whole amount. 2005 SPT- sorry to hear about your about your car and glad to hear everyone was ok. Thanks for sharing the pics

Right - IIRC 40-50% of that. Tough to say from those pictures.

Sorry to see what happened to your truck. The most important thing is that your wife, your son, and yourself came out without injuries. Did the officer give the other guy any tickets? If he is going to lose is license after this accident, he must have either a lot of points or caused many other traffic accidents by his bad driving.

Sorry for your accident. Did you get a copy of the police accident report? It would indicate whether or not any tickets were issued and the police interpretation of the accident. Good luck, I hope it's totaled for you and glad no one was hurt.

Sorry to see your loss. However it's important that you all came out of the accident without any major injuries. I had similiar accident in Feb of this year when a college kid made a illegal left turn in front of me when I had the green-light (right-of-way). He was completely at fault, admitted it and the police report has also clearly made that conclusion. My Nissan Maxima was totaled.

I do recommend that you get a full medical check-up, X-rays etc. done for you and your family - just to be on the safe side - even if you do not feel any pain. Soft tissue injuries can pop up few months or years later.

As for replacing your property loss, if you rent, or pay medical bills keep all receipts and keep records if you are handling this yourself

Wow that was quite an impact!! Glad to hear you are all okay.

Damage *looks* bad but may not be as serious as it looks. If the frame is bent, it's probably totaled. If the frame made out ok, and it's just the front clip that needs replacing, you probably will be getting a fat check from his Ins company and scheduling a time to have it towed to a body shop to begin repairs.

Usually to total a car requires the damage repairs to cost half of the vehicle's total worth or more, which depends on the market you are in. They totaled my Acura from the hail storm we had a couple months ago, but the insurance guy just cut me a check just below totaled value, and told me my best bet was to take the check, and the car, and use them as a trade in on something new, which is where the 4Runner come from for us.

If it does total it, let's hope that you're not upside down between what you owe, and what they pay you, and you at least come out a bit ahead, and then you can put that toward a new one. Only thing you'd be out is you effectively just extended the time you will be making payments on a car is all by starting over again.

Don't think they are going to even try to fix that. as for the other driver what a true dumass

Oh and like said, get checked out by a Dr. If not you and the wife, at least your baby. If you do notice odd pains later on, you'll have medical documentation showing you did get checked up and any anomolies noted at that time.

And the car seat is not useable again after an accident. His insurance will have to provide you with a check to replace it. Once a car seat is involved in an accident like this, it must be discarded/replaced. You never know that forces may have been imparted on the plastic latches of the carseat, or it's harness clips, etc.

They'll total it if the frame is bent or if the damages exceed a certain percentage of the vehicle's value.

When my dad had his truck in the early 90s, it was hit by someone running a red and t-boned the driver's door, extended cab and bed. The impact was so hard, it shifted the cab about an inch over on the passenger side. I remember when I first walked into the garage and saw the cab on the passenger side was not aligned with the bed. The insurance company wrote "open estimate" and it came out to over $7k to repair the truck. The truck was a year old back then and $15k new. The truck drove fine for the next nine years before we sold it. Only thing bad was I think the cab ended up being wider than original, since the interior trim panels had some gaps between the back and sides.

A friend of mine with his year old '98 Civic hit another car that pulled into front of him at an off-ramp that set off both airbags and required 7.5 pulls on the frame according to his estimate to repair. His insurance refused to total his car. It was also around $6-7k to repair. His car was $16k new then.

Check out your suspension. You may need an entirely new x-reas system. I'd push like heck to get all OEM parts.
