Hey guys, I've been lurking on this forum for awhile now, before I even got my 4Runner in May '15. I wanted to start up a build thread since I'm making more progress with my planned modifications.

I've always been into modding cars but never modded up a truck. My intention for this build was to not go too wild as it would serve as my DD and family hauler. I plan on mainly doing local trails in southern california as well as taking it camping when the kids are a bit older. My build is split up into 7 main modification stages.

Here's the civic I inherited from my wife when we got married to use as my dd. Traded this in since it had a blown head gasket and we needed a bigger car since another baby was on the way. Bonus pic of my 08' s2k in the background.

Here's some pics of the progression!
Stage 1: oct '15 - Decided to get some shrockworks sliders because I liked the simplicity and function of them. Also, these didn't sit as high as other sliders on the market so the family could use them as steps

Stage 2: nov '15 - trd pro grill. This item was a must have for me as I loved how it just transformed the front end. It was a pricey piece but well worth the cost!

Stage 3: Apr '16 - Gobi roof rack and ladder. After some research I went with a gobi rack and ladder because the quality and build was superb. Also, there was a group buy going on. :clap2:

Jun '16 - First time taking the 4R offroading at holy jim...

Fast forward to today... Stage 4-6: Feb '17 - Picked a set of toyo open country m/t 285/70/17 tires, a used set of ICON extended travel 2.5 coilovers with bilstein 5100 rear shocks and ICON 2" rear springs, c4fab gas tank skid, and a used demello offroad front bumper.

Stage 4: Demello Offroad front bumper. Before I got the 4Runner I was already eyeing this bumper as I loved the look and build quality of it. I got a killer deal from weeeee month's ago. It was a bit scuffed up but after many coats of different rattle can paint, I was happy with this finish. Had it installed at Demello since they needed a car for pictures/video for their installation instructions.

Repainting the front bumper was definitely a pain. I used 3 different types of rattle can because I wasn't happy with the finish. The bumper I got was already powder coated but it had some pretty rough scratches and gashes.

Instead of re powder coating I chose to rattle can it because I wanted the ability to do touch ups in the future as well as cover up the damages.

I initially went with rust-oleom flat black enamel. I was surprised by the results as it went on evenly. The thing I didn't like, was the grey tone to it. I didn't feel like it had a satin type of finish that matched my sliders and rack.

I then went and bought some rust-oleum automotive flat black spray cans. This rattle can job went horribly! The paint had the finish I was looking for but it went on very unevenly and totally looked like a typical rattle can job.

The third and final finish I put on it was rust-oleum bed liner. This was definitely a saving grace. I was hesitant to use this because I wasn't sure if it would make the surface too rough but to my surprise it turned out great! When I took to get the bumper installed, the guys at demello thought it was freshly powder coated :thumb3:

My cousin and I installed my front set of Icon extended travel coilovers. The install was pretty straight forward after one side was done. I'm rolling with that pre runner look until I install the rear springs and shocks. Total lift in the front was 3.5" - 4" but im assuming once the springs settle, it will be more like 3". Overall, very happy with the ride height and ride quality now.

Nice job. If you want a higher jet of black (less grey) go with a higher gloss of paint from RO. Not a full gloss but something above Matte should work well.

Ya i was thinking of going with a semi gloss but I'm super happy with the finish of the RO bed liner. It has a texture similar to textured power coat and gives the piece a nice layer of protection. I will most likely use this paint on all of my skids as well.

My cousin's and I finally got around to installing the rear bilstein 5100 shocks and icon 2" springs. The ride quality is much better now. Rolling around with all that extra weight really made the stock suspension feel very bouncey. Pictures below are stock, front coils installs, full suspension install top to bottom respectively.

Wheels and tires are next! I will hopefully get those on tomorrow or sometime this weekend. All dependent on when the wheels arrive :bravo:

Finally took delivery of my wheels from Deity Motorsports and idldesignusa. They are rotiform SIX-OR in 17x9 +1. I'm running them with a 1.25" spacer and its wrapped in 285/70/17 toyo open country m/t. I'm in love with this wheel and tire combination as it totally changes the look, feel, stance, and capabilities of the truck.

I actually need to get a body mount chop because I'm rubbing at full lock. Also, ended up buying a lifetime alignment at Firestone for $179. The alignment helped in relieving a lot of the rubbing issues but not enough.

Those are the exact wheels I am looking to put on my '16 Trail. Do they stick out passed the body much with the spidertrax spacers?

I am currently running the Pro wheels with the spacers with Duratrac 285s and that is about as far out as I want to go.

Without the spidertrax spacers I believe these wheels would just be slightly sunk.
