JW Offroad Tire Carrier

Was browsing Instagram and noticed a company named JW Offroad. They designed a bolt on tire carrier for the Lexus GX platform. I love how close it sits with the body and I’ve been looking for a tire carrier that sits close, but everything on the market for our 5th gens stick out too far for my taste.

Would something like this work for 5th gens? Biggest obvious difference is the hatch door opens in an up/down motion versus side to side.

I cant say for sure but I'd assume the roll down window would be an issue with putting bolts through the hatch

That^ Plus id be worried about the weight of a 34+ tire back there!

That is insane! Lol. With no internal reinforcements? That metal will tear like a beer can after a few bumps on a trail. And what kind of struts to lift and hold? Or does this swing out? Either way, pass.

Not sure I would want to have that much weight on the rear hatch. Trying to open it in the cold (even with reinforced hatch gates) would be a PITA. If the 4Runner swung open like the GXs, I would say maybe. But even then, I wouldn't want to just drill straight into the rear door. A tire carrier or a bumper seems more practical IMO.

The GX's have barn door swing outs. The international GX's (or Prado's) have barn doors that are reinforced and have the spare tire mounted to them. So technically the door can handle it but I just wouldn't trust some 3rd party fab company enough to do it. Although in the Jeep world people use aftermarket reinforcements all the time to support larger tires.

Not a chance on a 4Runner. No gas shock ever made could probably lift all that weight up.

I think this is a better solution.

Have to agree that drilling into a tailgate that is already prone to some rusting and opens vertically isn't the best...

Now the Detours of Maine seems like a good one.
