Swingout tire carrier wheel specs

Was looking for rear bumper swingout options that keep the tire as close to the hatch as possible. It got me thinking…does wheel specs have any factor in how close it sticks out? For example, if two different 4Runners had the same rear bumper w/ swing out from the same company, but they both had different wheels, would they both stick out the same or would it be dependent on the specs of each wheel?

Let’s say you had two identical 4Runners, same suspension set up, same size and brand tires but different wheels. Would the tires potentially stick out farther or be more tucked in on one vs the other depending on wheel specs?

Offset and backspacing will affect how a tire sits on a tire carrier. Some tire carriers are
Adjustable.

Some look more like an after thought than they do an actual carrier while others do not. I have been looking at these also but I do hate seeing the tire far off from the gate.. to me that looks goofy.

I couldn't stand how far the others stick out, that's why I jumped on the one that [MENTION=602811]ctnewman[/MENTION] designed and made a limited run of for 5 lucky forum members.

Looks better than most hitch mounted carriers, but not something I would personally want. Rather have an actual bumper.

I have seen a carrier that comes out of the stock bumper (requires a square be cut) that puts the tire close to the hatch. Looks good actually but hard to get actual information on it.
