What is the best wax for my 04' 4Runner - It is stays outside all the time

Hey guys, finally K and N just released an air intake system for the new 4Runner's. I just ordered mine from Performancecenter.com

It was about $285 shipped, but was well worth it. The model number of the K and N part is 63-1076. they try, for some reason, to hide it from general searches, but after calling K and N, it is the real deal. Keep in mind that AEM, Volant, Airraid, etc... have not released their versions yet. I really wanted a AEM Brute-Force, but they are taking too long in emissions testing in CA.

K and N estimated a 8 - 10 HP improvement to a stock motor and 10 torque increase (Stock - 245HP/283TQ | Now - 255HP/293TQ - my cat back is probably on about 2HP only, but gotta have the sound). I can't verify the improvements, however I will tell you that my 04' is snappier off the line, has more throttle resonse, and sounds incredible. It kind of sounds like a small TRD supercharger. With my cat-back exhaust system, it really compliments the vehicle.

Keep in mind that it will take about
K and N Air Filter for 03 - 05 4Runners 2 hours to install , but thats because I wanted to ensure that I didn't mess anything up and there was over 30+ steps. The instructions very well written.

I would totally get one. I just am very curious to see if the:

A. gas mileage improves
B. throttle response improves
C. performance gains

I mean, if all it does is make the engine sound better, it def isn't worth the 300. But if it actually does something else that will save me money in the long run, I’m all over it
 
The sound and slight performance gains of an aftermarket intake is nice.



But they simply do not filter like stock.
 
The intake that he has is not in an airbox, so the filter would just be dirty. That intake is nice, but it does let a little dust through. Here is some tests on various filters :
I just don't know exactly what they are saying because I can't understand it. Maybe someone can translate? Also the K&N is posted as a link. The picture won't show for some reason.

Well, if it is of any conselation, the two words that i can make out is check, and suck. But that probably doesn't help your cause.

My only concern is the performance aspect of it. Will it or will it not bump up performance and mpg, or won't it? I guess we will just have to find out:bash:

It will. I have always seen gains in power from intakes. MPG can also improve.

But, how much power and mpg improvement are you expecting?

The extra sound makes it difficult to drive conservative. ;):

Did they test a stock paper filter?

Here is another test to look at. Diesel owners take their air filters seriously.

I mean i am not expecting 20 ponies, just enough to validate the purchase. And is the sound that much better, and throttle response. I am finding it harder and harder to not buy this thing.

Just some logic for all who are thinking about buying an after market filter. If it increases power through air flow then it lets more dirt into your engine. That is the last thing you ever want to do. I've seen several studies on these filters and the perceived performance gains are not worth the risks to your engine and warranty coverage. JMHO
 
I know you can't believe everything on the internet, but I'm going to try to get the Apexi air filter, and try to fabricate my own intake. From all of the information I found about that filter, everything has been positive.
