K&N 63 Series AirCharger kit 63-9034

Is anyone running one of these? I know the TRD version is pretty popular but I ran into someone today that swore by the K&N version. I’ve searched but not much comes up on the 63 series.

While its only my opinion id say the TRD is worth the extra few bucks over this option. Just from a looks standpoint also don't love that the filter is exposed inside the engine bay.

The factory intake is a cold air intake. It pulls air from inside the passenger side fender cavity. Replace the factory filter with an AFE dry drop in for 60 bucks and be done with it. Even the TRD intake still uses the original bottom half of the stock intake. The top half is the same it just says TRD, big deal.

True that factor airbox is a "cold air intake". My intake temps when moving are usually within 8-10F of ambient.

Not true that the TRD airbox used the stock bottom, the TRD won't fit on the stock bottom, plus the TRD has a larger hole opening in the fender than stock.

i noted the differences when i installed mine.

Either way, i'd stay stock (cheapest and probably best solution) or go with the noise maker TRD. Either way, doesn't matter. No way i'd put in an open element or anything K&N.

The factory air induction box is true cold air "intake" as it pulls air from outside the engine bay. The "cold air intake" systems on the market are only getting cold air when the hood is open otherwise they only get hot air from engine bay and heat soak, the metal heat shield do not do anything to deflect heat. TRD box uses the same intake air source to keep IATs close to ambient.

Very good pictures, learn something new every day. I think i'm going to remove my stock lower box and basically cut out the inside section of the inlet pipe. Make it more like the TRD lower half which will also remove the necked down section and hopefully improve airflow a little bit. Project for next week!

If you're not opening up the exhaust also an aftermarket cold air box is just more noise when you get in the gas. Nifty, but no measurable gain. I've done both and it has managed to keep my mpg at a decent level after all the weight I added. Any minimal power gains are in the upper rpm bands where I seldom go. In hindsight after the costs involved I would probably have just done the drop in K&N filter and called it a day. I do like having a lifetime filter I can just clean and respray periodically.

Thank you all for the feedback. The open element in the engine compartment kinda sketches me out too, but I thought this might compliment my exhaust. Since nobody has chimed in with “I have the 63 series and love it.” I will stick with my drop in K&N.
