K&N Air filters

Know anything about K&N airfilters?

I mentioned to the gentleman that sold us our camper that here in our mountains, we are getting only about 8 mpg when towing. He suggested perhaps getting K&N... sez he gets about 1.5 mpg improvement when towing, and about 3 mpg better on his wife's car.

Thoughts?

I've read posts here and on other forums that filters that use oil (like the K&N) cause the mass air flow (MAF) sensor to get dirty faster and malfunction. If you do go with it, go easy on the oil.

On a stock engine seeing typical street duty is a waste money. Do not buy into the dyno hype.
Go with synthetic lubricants to reduce parasitic horsepower
and you will get better results. Its good for the engine too.
If you had an oval racer spending a lot of time near the redline
a K&N is the way to go. Stock street is a waste of time.

Paper media filters are cheap and disposable - what a concept ...
I find going to reusable stuff is moving backwards in time. Besides, as mentioned here, oil from these filters foils Mass Air Flow unit.
