K&N Intake Kit for $200

just got an intake kit for my 2.7L, 4cyl. engine. call up autoanything.com and tell them you can get the same part (in my case, #57-9012) on autopartsdealer.com for $210. autoanything will match that price, and do $10 better, with free UPS ground shipping. so you'll have a kit at your door in a few days for $200.

haven't yet - just ordered it yesterday. i've read a dozen or so reviews around the internet (mostly in the customer comments section of auto parts sellers) and most everyone with my engine has great things to say. when a replacement filter for the stock airbox costs $40, i figure i might as well spend $200 on a long-life filter and get a performance increase to boot!

I think it made a difference on my 2.7 when I installed mine. It was not much faster acceleration but I felt more power in the higher end.

Needless to say, it's beneficial with exhaust modification and is rather loud when you punch it.


Heres a video of when I got mine on, however I did have performance headers too. The sound you hear, though, is all intake, and it really does sound pretty good. The video I took though, with my shitty digital camera, does not give it good justice.

I noticed though, the volume of the intake just skyrockets when you get the exhaust done.

Well if anyone is getting rid of their stock air system on a 2000, I have a K&N I'd like to get rid of. Maybe we can make a deal.

James (ChildrenOfBodom) - LOVE IT! i checked out your build site last week and decided to get a K&N. however, i still have the stock exhaust header (replaced last year) and a brand-new Walker exhaust system from that point back. so, i'm not sure i will get much more than a couple extra HP from the new intake. by the way, your camera captured that sound just fine!

Really? Nice! I had something to do with your choice, that makes me happy!

The intake made me very happy with the high end gain (dynolicious app on my iphone told me I gained 8HP), although this engine really needs more than just that to get movin.

I think I'll try to make a new video of it, i figure if i get the camera under the hood you might not hear the exhaust over it.

absolutely! it's great to find good resources on the results people are getting with their 2.7L runner mods. takes a lot of the guesswork out of it, and saves $! if i have any problems with the intake install i might drop you a line.

The K&Ns aren't warrantied for such driving--it says so on the filter box or the paperwork that comes with the filter or something. I figure if they aren't sold enough on the filtering power of their own filters to guarantee them on dirt roads, then neither am I. I also found some fine dust up where the tube goes into the engine, so I'm not sure it's filtering as well as it needs to be. And two trusted mechanic friends of mine don't like them. I know a lot of you guys swear by them, but when I bought my 4runner a little over a year ago, the K&N was already installed and so I don't have the original air system any more--and they're surprisingly hard to find used. I found one, but when I checked into the company they had a lot of bad reviews, so I ended up not buying it from them.

If you need a stock airbox try a salvage yard. theres gotta be 20 of them at Jims Yoda yard in denver if not more, or the Yota Yard would prob have a ton of them...

K&N Filters are great at getting more air flow and HP out of your engine, they are not so great at actually filtering the air. My background has been primarly in street show cars for the last few years and have used or had dealings with various companies for products on these cars. K&N makes a well built product for specific applications. If you are going to be doing alot of off-road or high dust/dirt applications, K&N often isn't the best choice. The outter cone filter will blacken quickly, specially with the cleaner/filter spray needed to make the filter work properly. For road applications the cone isn't too bad as the filter will stop most street crime and bugs, but when the cone is surrounded by dust/dirt with no protective box around it, there will be some dirt that gets past the filter.
