K&N is borrowing my 4Runner...

...to develop the intake for the 2005's with the V8. They are coming to pick it up Monday morning and said they'll have it for a week. In return I get a kit!

Hopefully they can mass produce a kit shortly after making one up for your truck. I really want more power and every little bit helps. This will save me from fabricating my own intake.

I spent a few hours the other day trying to tinker and come up with what would have to happen (and if it would be possible for me to make an intake) to make an intake.

its not going to be easy....

the VSC is tied into the intake (rear resonator) as well as a few other sources needed.

Hey Casper, what do you mean the VSC is tied into the intake? Do you mean it uses a vaccum line? What does this do for the VSC? Thanks.

yeah the rear resonator on the intake tube is actually a vacum line for the VSC system. I pulled off that line and after trying that I capped off the inside of that resonator and the VSC lights lit up like a christmas tree.

Interesting, the VSC must be partially vaccum actuated instead of being a fully electrical solenoid.

K&N still has our 4Runner. They expect to return it on Wednesday of this week. They did tell my wife when they picked up the truck that it would be a while before they have the product on the shelf. I'll try to find out more the next time I talk to them.
 
Awesome. Thanks for the update. I am just glad to hear that there may be an intake for our trucks soon ....

No update yet. When K&N returned our 4Runner they said it would be a couple months before having anything ready. They also said they may need our 4Runner one more time to install the kit and take pictures for the instructions. I'll be sure to post an update as soon as I know anything.

Ohhh, I get it. They didn't give you one yet. I thought they designed one on the spot and you had it on your ride when they gave it back. I guess it makes sense to do it that way. No hurry, thanks for the reply.
 
i got my volant from autoanything.com really cheap. like 250 after a cupon. in a local performance shop they told me 450 plus installation.
 
If made your own intake a VSC valve can be made by just taking a bolt on compressor type valve and bolting it inside the tube.
