Ok so i bought a K&N air filter the other day, just cause the one we had before was going bad it was dirty and such..

Now i have heard alot of things about the Air filters from many different people.

Some Think it improves your HP I know it doesnt.

Some say it improves your gas mileage by a little.

And when i got it, it had a oily texture to it what are the oils on it and how do they help.?

What does this thing really do...

Thanks

Taken from k&n's website -

The Importance of Oil
A K&N Air Filter is made of 4 to 6 layers of cotton gauze sandwiched between two epoxy-coated aluminum wire screens. The cotton is treated with a specially formulated grade of oil causing tackiness throughout the cotton

your k&n only cost 195? thats a lot better than mt 350 i paid! damn looks like i kinda got screwed!

but yes it does look good

also another thing about oiling do not spray too much on the filter or else the oil get in the intake tube and on the throttle body and makes it clogged up with carbon and such from the engine, i made that mistake and need to clean my TB again after 5000 miles of use, and i did severely notice more high end tourqe

So you got just the filter and not the how Cold Air intake?

I also have the air filter and have done the deckplate mod. I haven't really noticed any gains in MPG. I don't think I've gotten to much more HP either. I don't really go over 2,500 RPM though.

Yes i just bought the Filter at Autozone. I dont have the money yet for a intake..

Don't waste your money on a CAI. Just do the deckplate mod and spend the rest of something else.
