i'm also interested in the air charger....does it do anything to sound in the engine compartment? i heard that it is pretty loud when combined with the borla. i don't want anything that loud. is it even worth getting it with a stock exhaust system?
I had the K&N FIPK for my Durango. It did make the intake a little louder. But it also helped with the throttle response. The AirCharger is the same as the FIPK, just not rated for street use. I plan on getting one for my 4runner as soon as I can. I also had a flowmaster 40 series installed on my durango. Which combined with the FIPK made it noticeablly quicker. I also plan on getting another muffler, however it will not be the 40 series. I loved the sound, however at time the flowmaster drone would drive me up the wall.

The intake kit doesn't generally help HP much, especially with the stock exhaust. The reason to get the intake is for throttle response, which it usually helps most in. This is the same for other mods like spark plug wires, the 8.5mm kits. Also many people get the intake for the sound, which it also does a good job at.
Moral of the story is this: if you're ordering an intake expecting to see a gain in power, good luck. You will, however, (or should) see a gain in throttle response and overall drivibility.

I had a lengthy discussion w/ my mechanic about the good vs. bad in using a K&N air filter. He stated that even new filters out of the box are sometimes oversaturated in oil and this can lead to problems w/ the Mass Air Flow Sensor and a dirty throttle body. Also, he stated that the K&N oil doesn't always catch the small particles as good as a paper filter due to the increased air flow and it's those particles that can also do damage. He's torn apart enough of them to see the damage first hand... that being said, I'm considering removing my K&N when it starts to look dirty and go back to using a paper air filter... maybe one of the new FRAM AIR HOGS?

I'd say stock is the best 
Unless you plan to always clean and maintain your filter (which can be a hassle) its just not worth it.
Performance.... eh you won't gain crap. If you want HP, you're better off getting some aftermarket exhaust (maybe some headers if they ever make em) and a SC.
Anything outside of that it's just not worth it unless you're racing.
Now that said, have fun!
