Dude, that sucks. So, that begs the question...will you ever go wheeling again? Just no more tight trails? Seems like a lot of money to spend just to scratch it up again. :shrug:

I went through the same thing after going out to Gruber. I was upset about the scratches, but also totally hooked on wheeling. AND I was having a little remorse about choosing black. I researched vinyl wraps (waaay too expensive) and finally settled on the plasti dip.

Of course I'll go wheeling again! That's why I bought the Runner. I did have some pretty decent scratches already - its just the sheer amount of them now. :Cry: I figure I've been wheeling for two years and wouldn't have done the paint before this last trip. If I can make it another 3-4 years without needing major paint work again I'll be in good shape. I don't mind it looking like I wheel it, unlike 95% of the heeps and trucks out here that are modded for looks. I'm definitely going to do my best to avoid the tight trails, but some scratches are unavoidable. In the future I would love to wrap it, the matte black is so badass looking. Eventually (many years from now) this will be a dedicated trail rig, it has never been in the plans to sell it. That being said I certainly don't want to completely destroy its value...

Hows the plastidip look after you washed it?

The dip held up extremely well considering the abuse it took. There's a lot of pinstripes in the dip itself, but nothing went through to the paint. I noticed the passenger side-mirror has some gashes and peeling (no surprise). It's also starting to peel up at the front of the hood and along the panel gap between the left fender and I bumper cover. I think those are from high pressure washing and the abuse it took when I mounted my winch plate, not the trail. I plan to touch things up in the next few days if I can get some free time.

One thing about the dip is I've found it's pretty tough to get clean. It sort of always looks dirty. So far, I've had the best luck with drive through washes that have brushes. I've found that it is actually a gentler on the dip than using the high pressure and foam brush.

Definitely not a install and forget it type mod. And I can tell I'll be lucky if it lasts a year before I have to completely re-do it, even with occasional touch ups. But, it does provide excellent paint protection.

That's pretty sweet. Clean and low mileage. I love those colors too. Those rims would have to go. And it is kinda weird that it is missing the rear spoiler. The only thing I can't tell is whether or not it has the rear locker. If it does it would be a sweet start.

Not a bad idea. My friend did rattle can duplicolor bed liner on his sliders and it turned out really well. Do you have access to a spray gun? I wonder if a Wagner spray gun would work like I used for my plasti dip? Overall looks like basically the same process as plasti dipping but permanent.

I've looked at my GoPro footage, I think I've got some good stuff. Hopefully I can make something cool out of it!

Also, the 4Runner is going to bodyshop next week. Paint will have to be refinished - wet sanding both sides and polishing. Minimum $500! :dammit: Needless to say it was an expensive weekend, but still worth it!!

Yeah that why I'll probably not hit those trails again. My paint is hurting, not as bad as black.

I decided to not refinish the paint. I'll just scratch it again. I think I'll probably look into plastidipping. I get a lot more looks now, but it's more of a "WTF did you do to that?!" Still worth it!

I didn't see anyone address finding the trail head in Clayton, was it difficult to find?

I'm trying to get a few things done to my rig before spring. Not sure if I'll be ready for anything by Feb. The Trailhead is off 9-pines Road. It's not too hard to find....especially with GPS. A GPS a is pretty essential to run the trail because there are so many off-shoots you could get lost without it. All the land on either side of the trail is private and in those parts they don't take kindly to trespassing. Do you have a file?

If you have an iPhone or GPS enabled iPad you can run MotionX. That's what I do and it works pretty well.

I've got a couple of friends who are interested in doing the K-Trail so I might have something in the works trip-wise but nothing concrete yet.

Yeah I generally use my iphone for GPS duties. I'll check out the MotionX app.
