We all do. We tend to be biased toward info that supports our beliefs while tending to be cynical of things that we disagree with.

That said, I'm pro-gun and most people that I've met who were anti-gun became mush less so after learning about them. My opinion is that we tend to be afraid of the unknown, and when you combine a lack of knowledge and shock stories (about anything, just tell your kids a ghost story on a stormy night), people form their opinions based upon emotion instead of rational thought.

Yeah the selective editing bit was very "News Organizations" in general, but this whole thing with their producers intentionally disregarding the established gun control regulations in place (presumably to prove some point) is pretty crappy. On one hand the "Left" is going to say how we need more regulations to prevent this stuff (which obviously it's not an issue of regulations as they were intentionally bypassed/ignored; but rather an issue of enforcement) and on the other the "Right" is going to label them hypocrites (rightfully so) for purposefully circumventing the very laws and regulations they are in favor of (and ironically proving that criminals can obtain weapons because they do NOT follow the laws).

It's pretty crappy all around and does nothing but create more distrust and conflict in today's hotly contested gun rights debate era...

I'm willing to bet the "left" would be fine with better enforcement of existing laws too. They are trying to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people, not create laws that won't be enforced. Did you really think otherwise?

It's not what they think as much as what they do, a lot of times they are more quick to additional laws than thinking of enforcement. i.e. ammo background checks, hi cap magazine regulations, ect. all of which are nightmares to enforce and give little too no effect.

The intentions are not inherently evil, but they go about it in a bad way. As [MENTION=138924]Breadman03[/MENTION] pointed out, a lot of these poorly thought out gun control plans and policies come from those who do not understand the subject matter well or at all; it's much in the same way of how Congress is supposed to rule on internet and technology privacy when they have no idea on how it really works to begin with.

The problem is that inherently the idea of "trying to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people" is a flawed line of thinking and creates much strife with both parties. Much in the same way that a locked door is not 100% assurance that your home will not be broken into. As my father always says, "if they want to get in, their going to get in."

My understanding is she endorsed a "documentary" that selectively edited out the responses conservatives gave when having a discussion about guns. The video was edited to make it look like the conservatives had no response. When in fact they did respond.

Unless we are telling about a totally different Katey C. incident.

There's two prominent incidents with that documentary, the one you are talking about is the "first" one, the one Thai is referring to is the more recent "second" incident where the producers knowingly and intentionally directed their employees to purchase weapons without going through the proper channels and then transport them across state lines.

I will say this much. All the media sucks and is owned by a few people.

My family has been heavily involved in shooting sports as far as I can remember. Dad shot professional trap and long range comps for 15+ years. After that he managed the sporting goods store startup all over western Washington State. He was heavily involved in the retail aspect of gun and ammunition sales. Washington state had an ammunition registration for the sole purpose of knowing who bought ammo so when a crime was committed, they could see who purchased it and check if the any had a record. They caught no one. Barbra Boxer of California said if I could I would take all the guns away right now. A government employee of San Francisco lobbied against guns and helped pass the HP ban in the city of SF. He was later caught helping export military and non military grade weapons out of the country.

This is one truths that a lot of us have found to be true. The elected officials by and large are a do as I say not as I do. Barbra Boxer at a recent democratic event that got out of hand "thankfully I had all this security around be. I don't know what would have happened if they weren't there" (paraphrased).

Now I shot for over 25 years (not pro). I have met many liberal but open minded individuals that had a big fear of guns because they were taught that guns kill people. After being educated about firearms and then being taught the basic working of all common types of firearms. And most of them trying at least a few. All but a few are no longer afraid of firearms and most that tried them continue to shot to some extent today.

The left say they want compromise, but compromise consists of both side giving up something. The left rarely offers compromise. They demand sacrifice. i.e. We want all guns named but if you register your guns we will be quiet. We want you to not be able to shot any place in the forest. But they never offer to give something up of their own.

If we enforced the basic laws. Punish criminals. Report the gun violence stats as they actually are. Suicide, gang, ect. Then let the public decide. A murder suicide take place at ucla. The world is burning. Nobody reports the 100's of people shot in Chicago town. 100's and 100's. But that's not reportable because one, Chicago has very strict gun laws and 2 sadly the press does not care unless you have money or the crime was committed in an area with money.

It's sad that we the people enable this. Remember the press is the only profession protected by the bill of rights. And yet they just twist to meet their rating standards. Both sides!

I haven't seen the documentaries in question but I wouldn't be surprised if they left out the facts.

I have seen time and again left leaning stories and documentaries completely ignore the facts to push a narrative.

False narratives that are in the news:
* Gun violence epidemic in America
* Rape and sexual violence epidemic on college campuses
* Police violence epidemic across America
* Hate crime epidemic across America

At a national level these are completely false. Your kids are safer than any generation to ever live in America before them, they are less likely to be shot (on a national average) than generations before, and they are less likely to be assaulted than any generation ever before.
