Katrina, in a T4R

We decided, for a variety of family reasons, including support of those in our family greater than 90 years of age, to evacuate prior to Katrina, from Baton Rouge Louisiana to Arkansas, on August 28. We returned to safety today, September 3. Our evacuation was a minor inconvenience compared to the major losses of life and property, and prevailing misery, that have occurred in New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We are safe, as is our home. Our electiricty has been restored after only 4 days, and we have lots of debris, and that is acceptable to us.

The 4Runner served us well, northbound away from the storm, and southbound back home...we carried huge quantities of supplies and food and valuables, comfortably, with confidence. And the gas mileage was quite reasonable, as we burned gas purchased for greater than $3/gal.....

Fellow Louisianian (and Baton Rougean) here. Glad to hear you made out safely. We are fine here as well. 4 days without electricity but that's nothing compared to what others are going through. If you are interested in getting involved in local relief efforts, please let me know. I've been to Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA (Alexandria) twice now, and the Animal Shelter staged at Parker Colesium on LSU's campus. Monday I plan on heading over to the PMAC. There is an urgent need for help in these areas.

BTW, nice pictures. I wish I could have captured what I saw today on camera coming home from Alexandria. 50 + army trucks carrying supplies, 20+ buses carrying evacuees. Both sightings gave me chills.

Glad to see you are safe.
The major problem in evacuation from NO is the jam on I-10 west.
many sections of that are through swamps with GATOR under the bridges.

Hope it never happen again.

Glad to hear everyone is okay. Up here in Monroe (300 miles north of New Orleans), we just got some drizzle. There are a lot of evacuees in the motels/hotels and some in our local civic center.

Fellow Louisianian checking in...

I am in Lafayette and we saw some weak winds. I work for Shell and used to fly out of PHI in Venice. Every word from there is that it is gone. I am just greatful to have my family safe and feel for those who have lost so much. I have a couple of evacuees staying with me and am going to be going down to the Cajun Dome to help with the people who are staying there.
