Can't find an Early Model Guide.

If you have it, what's the retail listing for this:

1988 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4
3.0 V6, manual 5-speed
recently restored and running excellent
(excellent condition inside and out)
all power options, sun roof, tow hitch.
Newer mud terrains

I am just interested to know my 4Runner's listing.
Not selling!

it said high retail $5,275 ... wtf!?
didn't ask for engine size or anything else.
Don't trust it.
No Early Model Guide for NADA in this library either..

That's because for most people, the engine is irrelevant. These older 4runners are too hard to judge the value on so nada makes a general assumption. Yes, the 5k is extremely high unless it's in really good condition or heavily modified. I sold my 88 and got $4,500 out of it. If I waited and pushed I may have gotten a little more but not much.

same price I was thinking too.anyway, again, just interested to know what the Kelley Blue Book Early Model Guide would say ..

edmunds goes of true market valve but does go past 1990. i have an 88 as well. imo it all depends on how much its worth to you. it will only sell as high as someone is willing to pay or see how much others are selling in your area and gauge of their condition/price vs yours

NADA guide is the only one that matters, it'd the one new/used car dealers and banks use. It's the industry bible.
But they are off here, $5K is way to high.

this depends on dealer to dealer. 5k is alot for guys on this forum but i bet for those that are not on the forums will pay 5k plus for a rust free clean stock runner easily. seen it before. other people have other plans for these and know that it is getting harder and harder to find. alot sold in the US at high prices usually get shipped of to other countries where its worth even more

A cars value is based on three things; 1) What the seller/owner thinks it's worth. 2) What a buyer is willing to pay. 3)...and least important of all, what NADA, KBB, or what "Black Book" says. Reason I say least important is because I have never seen NADA, KBB or the Black Book lay down cash to buy a vehicle. Google Black Book vs NADA. Black Book comes out each week and only goes to registered dealers.

As ToyoTech mentioned, the only real way to get an idea of the value of a vehicle is to research all the different selling outlets in your area, CL, Autotrader, Cars.com etc, to get an idea of what comparable vehicles are being offered for. You then have to decide what you think as a private seller each of these are actually going for.

In the end the only thing that matters is what the owner thinks it is worth and what a buyer would be willing to pay. If someone is willing to wait, a seller can usually find a buyer willing to pay what they are asking.

All that being said, I love seeing when someone posts about a vehicle being offered in the North East for $12,000 "Man that thing would sell for 20K here in TX." Really?!?!? Trust me if that were true people like me would be loading up for a little road trip all the time. While there is obviously a little difference in what a vehicle goes for based on geographic location it is usually not that much of a difference.

I just noticed your location.
For some reason vehicle values in the PNW are always higher than most of the rest of the nation.

That guy with the 89 has been trying to sell that thing for 7k for a very long time now. It does have low miles but it's a 3.0.

Resurrecting an old thread via search, but has anything changed on pricing model for 4Runners? Looking to sell my 1998 SR5 right now and it's hard to determine fair pricing. KBB seems low, NADA high and Craigslist/forum pricing is all over the place.
