KCcarguy's Build Thread

Fast forward a few weeks and the sliders arrived in the mail. Packaging was great and fit and finish is superb....as you would expect from SW. Justin at Shrockworks [MENTION=63082]TxBxSx[/MENTION] came up with these when I asked him for a flat slider that could work as a step. He had done this previously on a FJ and send me a CAD with a 4runner version.

I loved it and I'm glad I took the gamble on an un-tested design. They really do work pretty well as a step....not only for entry/ exit, but for accessing the roof. I've also tested them on the trail and in parking lots (see previous post) and I can testify to their strength. They have already paid for themselves preventing body damage.

Am I seeing this right? I see that there are only two legs coming off the slider to mount to the frame?
 
Body mount chop

So, even with my LR UCA's, etc I still had very slight rubbing at full lock. A BMC was needed. Fortunately, I have a friend with pretty good metal working skills that was willing to help with the job.....it only cost me a bottle of Balvenie 15yr! I wanted a clean/ finished look with the ends capped-off. I think he did pretty darn good!

Here is is cut back. We found a sawz-all easiest to use and cleaned it up with a angle-grinder

Ha. Unfortunately, that's when I wake up every weekday. Got to eat, work out, get the kids ready and be at work by 0630.

Yep two, I bought the same config.

Seems to be fine I have jacket the truck up with them a few times, seems pretty damn solid, no creaks, grunts, or groans. I am not sure how they would take a hard landing hit, I know they would fare far better than the rocker trim or chintzy steps/running boards :)

I was just surprised to see only two support legs. Most other companies have three or four.

Shrockworks sliders for the 4Runner have always been 2 legs, as far as i know. i've never really heard of that being a problem and—apart from their long wait times—they're nearly always regarded as one of the best.

I'm not sure about SW's standard sliders. My understanding is that the step sliders are based on the same design, but could be wrong.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with them. Just used to seeing more than two supporting legs. As long as they get the job done, right?

Not saying there was a problem. But like you said, "regarded as one of the best" one would think there would be more support to them. And I thought the same thing about people saying they're one of the best and is why I was surprised to see only two supporting legs rather than three or four.

I agree. I could see that more attachment points might be good in a rock-crawler, but for incidental contact during trail-runs/ overlanding, they're plenty adequate.
