KDSS for the North East

Hey everybody...Need some help getting a KDSS in NYC
It's been over a year since I placed a deposit for a TRD OP w/ KDSS and still no word of any allocations being sent over here. The dealer has not received any answers from their regional rep. Only thing they can do is keep submitting my order every 2 weeks when their allocation opens up. Emailing corporate is no help.

Does anyone know which is the closet region to the northeast that are getting KDSS? Looking for a dealer without mark up.

I've contacted 2 dealers on the west coast but they will not accept out of state purchases.
Any help is appreciated.

Hey man! I was in the same predicament as you this past few months as well. I put a deposit in at a dealership selling at MSRP in upstate NY near the end of August and to this day still don't have an allocation so I asked for my deposit back. From my research, it seems like the NY, CT, and NJ sales region aren't receiving allocations that include KDSS at this time. I've looked at every dealership in the area and none had any ORPs with KDSS in stock or even in transit.

Back in December 2021 I got tired of waiting so I put in another deposit ($1000) at a dealership in Pennsylvania that sold at MSRP and to people out-of-state. It took them just over 3 months to get my build delivered. Picked it up on 3/5/2021 and it was exactly as I ordered it (Army Green, KDSS, Moonroof, and Premium Package) and with no dealer add-ons. The vehicle never showed up on their website or Toyota's inventory so I guess only the salespeople would know which ones are coming in.

The dealership was Bennett Toyota of Lebanon and my contact was Collin Wathen. It was a very easy process and my salesman was honest and straightforward with me from the first email. I didn't get any pressure from him or the finance guy when I went to pick it up either. Overall, I would make the drive out there again if I were to upgrade to the 6th Gen. Tell him Vinny sent you, if he wants my last name, just send me a PM.

If you don't mind the drive, I would definitely recommend them. Just follow the break-in procedures on the way back(i.e. varying your speed while you're driving on the highway, no cruise control) and I would suggest the Tappan Zee if you're coming back during peak traffic hours.

I was also in the same boat here in Nashville for a while, with my name in at the dealer.

Every few weeks with some spare time, I would do a huge radius search of every dealer near me. I'd usually come up with a few KDSS results, and after emailing, I'd get the pre-sold reply.

Almost every one I found listed with KDSS was in either Alabama, Georgia, or as the poster above said, Chicago.

A dealer in AL finally came through one morning with an in-stock message and I was on the road.

Got mine at www.toyotaoftheshoals.com

They currently have a Lunar Rock ORP with KDSS listed but I have to assume it's been purchased... worth a look!
 
I went to check my local Toyota dealer which is pretty big and they don't even list the 4Runner as a model they sell on there website. lol
 
I really don't understand why Toyota doesn't send KDSSs this way. When I contacted the west coast, they were surprised because they have a bunch with kdss. Seems like even PA is getting them.

It's due to whomever is doing the ordering for your region. Apparently that person doesn't think KDSS is an option buyers want.

If there is a buyer with a deposit for one, couldn't they just add it to the 4runner order? It's not like they aren't ordering 4runners at all and it's not like Toyota isn't building them with Kdss.

It would be nice if the regional rep would give us any info on kdss orders. Even if it's to say there will not be any.
 
I don't believe they sell a lot of KDSS versions compared to the others so I am sure they make a batches of 4Runners with KDSS certain times a month/year.

Thanks for the info. Let me see how it goes with PA first.
 
I bought one a while back.....in New England, at the time you could not get a "trail premium" without it --everything on the ground had it....I guess things have changed. It's a great option.

Try Bristol Toyota --- they sell at msrp / no dealer cheese options rammed down your pie hole. South west florida is the opposite, they add ridiculous stuff and and take away "toyota care - and then charge you $600 for that (2 oil changes and 4 tire rotations)!"

I just picked up a TRD PRO on Friday. From Bristol Toyota
$1000 deposit 75 days later it was in my garage (they had a vin# in 50 days- they only get that when its at the dock). They quoted 90 days. I am 100% sure if you ask them about getting a 4runner with KDDS you will get a straight answer.

Nice!!!! Glad to know I was able to help! Enjoy the truck man! Also, I would suggest a catalytic converter plate if you're parking on the street. I use the one from Talon's Garage,.
