This is almost a requirement on the 200-series Land Cruiser’s. It’s been done plenty, and will likely make the process a ton easier than the bafoonery I got into with rachet straps. Be sure you DO NOT back those screws out beyond 2.5 turns. There’s nothing but sadness beyond 2.5 turns.

I used this method when I install my Icon stage 2. I did it per Metal Tech's advise. It makes it easier because the system isn't as pressurized. I didn't use straps or remove the clamps on the KDSS piston or the stationary bar. An extra hand makes the install easier. Make sure you do it on level ground.

There’s plenty of ways to do it. I chose not to remove or loosen anything KDSS related. Just jack up the kdss piston to lower the opposite side.

This looks like the ARB instructions I eyeballed a couple months ago. One day I'll have time to install my coilovers. I'm hoping this weekend...

I agree if you’re worried about lifting on the piston lift the LCA on the driver side to make it easier

I just installed a lift and like so many, have a pretty terrible lean now, even with a lift that is supposed to address the issue a bit.

Would it be worth it for me to get my truck on a lift, loosen the shutter valves the recommended amount, lower it to the ground and retighten? Or will that even do anything?

I'm not even sure the lean bothers me that much while driving but would be willing to go through the routine if it really will fix it, to some degree.

I've never researched an issue related to the 4runner than has so many dead-ends and conflicting results that lack so many details. Would love to get this figured out!

first time i installed the lift i had about 3/4" lean. i opened the valves like the OP says, jumped on the high side and it was enough to pull the high side down. Not sure if it remained even like that, i stopped checking/caring. It might not have even been related to the sway bar, just needed to get the suspension to settle.

Yeah, I tried it on the ground yesterday and nothing changed whatsoever. I had backed out the valves 2 full turns but maybe that wasn't enough? I was stressing going passed the 2.5 mark.

“You do not need to remove your KDSS sway bars. Just loosen the shutter valve bolts 1.5-2.5 turns maximum. Do not go further than this. Once you have the shutter valves open, you should have more flexibility with the KDSS”

I have done a bit of work to mine. I have seen that technique. Screwing with anything hydraulic related KDSS, no thanks. If I had the SST or knew where I could borrow one, I would. As is I have two floor jacks, a long drift punch and a single ratchet strap, unbolt one side at a time and zero issues. I will say the first time I did it was a PITA

I certainly wouldn’t want to have to rely on the dealership if something gets jacked, not saying all dealer mechs around here are bad, a majority just don’t give a sh!t.
