KDSS Long term reliability?

What is the best possible tire in your opinion? I bet that it is different from mine...and 99% other members here. Toyota selects factory tires because they are reasonably price for bulk but also because they know that everyone has different tastes/needs in tires...and live in different climates/environments. Toyota select one that works for most consumers...just like Acura selecting certain tires for the MDX because they are quiet and low rolling resistance, not because they are good in snow or that they are good for track use. People change tires like they change shirts.

Tell me when you can go to your local Discount Tire to pick up KDSS alternative. So, Toyota went to this "overly" complicated KDSS system (vs. something that you thought up while sitting on the toilet) because it was cheap OR that they did not know what they were doing OR that they did not look after their customers? All the while, you admitting that you know nothing about KDSS development. Nicely done. Nicely done.

Now, you know why i wrote above that you miss the boat...hell, you not only miss the freaking boat dock, but you miss the highway exit!!!

Now that i made you and RCFJ feel like silly, it does point to the bigger issue here. You claim to be some sort of professional engineer or hydraulic person...arguing endlessly and flaunting your credentials. But no one in their right mind would come up with that silly analogy above...and think that it is pure gold! :loco: No one. If this is your day job, then Walmart is hiring greeters if you're interested....

I doubt that. There is thread after thread after thread about Duncraps and shitty stock tires on this forum, the blue room, and TW. No one is dumb enough to think those are good tires

As far as tires - I feel like I'm alone in the wilderness here. I've always deferred to Mr.T as all knowing. I first thought "an 8" is too small for an FJ Cruiser" but then I figured - must just be bad driving. Then Mr.T put an 8.2 in the '10+ and my faith started to falter. But I prayed really hard and found my faith again. Now that I've learned we can't trust Toyota engineers' tire choice, everything I once thought I knew flew right out the window.

I guess now we know Toyota sucks and choosing tires, and you can make a better decision. You know more than toyota engineers about the best all around tires for the 4runner. Can Toyota engineers at least select appropriate size tires? Surely you wouldn't change the size of tires.

How do you pick and choose what parts you agree with Toyota engineers on and what parts you don't? Is it a cost thing? Or a convenience change? Help me out here. I can drop my 4runner off at any legitimate offroad shop and have a new KDSS system fabricated and installed. Is it because the cost is more than new tires? My trail rig tires cost more than KDSS. Does that make them similarly an affront to Toyota's engineers? The diff gears? I even had the nerve to change the drive shaft lengths and use double cardain joints. And they still work. What a slap in the face of Toyota.

How about shocks. Toyota surely engineers exceptional shock absorbers. And I have a winch - is that OK? Toyota didn't install one from the factory and I fabricated my own mount. I don't know where the line is drawn here. Help me find it!

(As a point of fact, I've never claimed that it was "overly" complicated. I'm not sure who you may be quoting there. I suspect there is some smoothing effect on directional transitions of the pistons. I merely claimed that a similar functional system could be built for around $500 in parts, that it would not require synthetic fluid, that KDSS does not overheat fluid nor does it require synthetic fluid to function and low temps, that it would not require accumulators to function, that it does not assist meaningfully in small bump compliance and shock absorbing. I've also claimed that I can build a bleeder SST for cheap - and I can. Oh and I finally claimed that compressed air would be a functional low cost substitute for nitrogen in the accumulators and contrary to the implication of another poster it will not explode. - those are not subjective. They are all objective facts. If you can disprove them please do so. I'd love to learn something new.)

This is fun and entertaining but you are absolutely full of it! Put this to rest. Fab us a $500 KDSS that's better than Toyota's and we'll all buy. But please do keep up the banter. I haven't read so much crap in a long time...

$500 in PARTS plus the sway bars was what I proposed to be more accurate. You have to have some fab skills, which of course is why this is a better topic over on MUD, but I'll bite:


Piston x2 2.75X6.5X1.375 : $120
2.75X6.5X1.375+DA+HYD+CYLINDER_L.jpg

Hydraulic line: $150ish retail from a tractor supply shop.

Build your own tabs to mount to frame: $5? Scrap steel

Sway Bar bushing set: 35

Custom weld on ends for sway bar bushing: $5 in scrap steel pipe?

Some miscelaneous hardware for upper mounting pins, hydro fittings; $40

ATF: $30

That plus the sway bar set of your choice should pretty much get you there.
If you want a pair of accumulators - add another $300ish plus $30 in fittings.
 
Screw KDSS. I tried to tell Entune to shut up, stop talking to me, stop giving me directions, cancel route and even after two training sessions she ignores me.

Does anybody know how to program STFU into Entune? :-)
