KDSS or PRO?

Pretty sure no. But it is probably felt less at high speeds.

But for normal cornering it sure as hell can be felt. My lifted 4R handles better than my wifes Highlander. I've also rode in my friend SR5 can you can tell. Its not a fix all but I think its worth it. wasn't an option down here either all TRD OR comes with them unless you want to special order.

Look at the post below. Another dude also read that it disables itself.

Different vehicles compared though.

OP - Pro Bro is not worth what it comes with.

I opted to go with the TRD ORP without KDSS or sunroof and opted to pour the money I saved into a top of the line suspension that is much more performant than the TRD PRO for the same amount of money. (Actually a little less) I test drove KDSS and non KDSS and it was neat and interesting from a technical perspective but wasn’t impressed enough to spend the cheddar and risk the potential problems associated with lifting and the KDSS. I don’t mind a little more lean in the corners and the suspension I’m adding will stiffen it up considerably. I’m by no means making a recommendation based on my choices, I can only recommend making an informed choice. Best of luck with your research!

Doesn't KDSS disable above a certain MPH? If so then it wouldn't help much for cornering.

My Runner has it but I do high speed desert running so KDSS doesn't help there.

I believe it disables above 12mph. By disabling, I mean you lose the extra articulation as the fluids are "locked" in. Below 12mph, the fluid flows freely so you get more articulation.

No way in hell it disables above just 12mph. Thats almost rolling speed lol.

Maybe its just in my head.

Maybe this is where the 12mph got pulled out of air?
How or when does KDSS kick in?

Well think about what it's for...it's meant to increase articulation which is needed at low speed when crawling on rutted/rocky terrain. It makes sense to cut it off at high speed since it doesn't help and may overheat the system with constant, fast wheel travel.

I know you've made your choice but I'll offer my experience for those still reading. I went from a 07 SR5 (totaled) to a 14 Trail Premium with KDSS (only one I could find apparently). There is most certainly a difference. I would say it's hard to experience over short journeys and really depends on the type of roads as well as your driving style. I have found it to be rather nice and offering me way less body roll especially at faster speeds. I do a lot of city driving around less then kind commuters and the extra agility is nice when I need it. Got to be nimble if you want to avoid being slammed into by the inept.

Not sure saying it disables is accurate. I believe the idea is that reservoir closes stiffening the swaybar in the process by restricting the KDSS piston movements. The video link might clarify; I haven't watched it in a while. Better handling at faster speeds and more articulation at slower speeds is generally how they pitch it. I should add that these are benefits over say a normal stock swaybar. There are still other traditional options available.

No matter how you decided it was always a win because it's a 4Runner.

I'm also looking for an ORP with KDSS and they're nowhere to be found in northern New England. Do dealers actually stock any 4R's with KDSS, or do they have to be special-ordered, and what's the usual wait time on delivery?

My personal opinion is the PRO is a waste of money and KDSS makes suspension installs needlessly expensive and also starts to lean if it's in a bad mood. So get neither.

I’ll admit that when the PRO first came out I was enamored by it, but after learning more about what the package actually includes, it actually became less desirable to me by a large margin.

I have noticed a fair amount of Pro owners upgrading their suspension after the fact anyways… seems like a very poor value if one didn’t have the intention of just leaving it alone and enjoying it as-is out of the box.

KDSS is interesting to me, but I still question its true value as someone who would probably throw some decent coin at suspension.

To be honest, I got KDSS because I didn't thing I'd do anything crazy with the 4runner. But after seeing 35s on a 4runner.... hmmm. I do know of a few folks who have 4-4.5" lifts and 35s on KDSS but never asked them how or the diffculty of modding it.

I just have to keep telling myself that if I want a crawler of 35/37s, get a old jeep lol

I firmly believe that the KDSS helped prevent a roll over last year when I suddenly swerved to avoid a huge chunk of tire from a semi that blew a tire not far ahead of me, due to the fact that it reduces body roll when driving at higher speeds.

At this point, I don't see myself needing more than 3" of lift, so that 's not a concern. Many lift manufacturer's lifts are KDSS compatible. Just need a competent mechanic to rebalance the system after you add a lift.

just to pile on to this thread some more... we test drove both with and without KDSS and it was a night and day difference how much better the KDSS equipped model performed. at the same time, im a pretty analytical person and part of me wondered how much of that was knowing we were in a KDSS 4R so we subconsciously talked ourselves into how much better it rode, but regardless we were convinced.

and like others have said, if you're gonna go full aftermarket with your suspension, especially to the level of something like a MRR set up, i'd think twice about it. but for us and our moderate offroad use (forest roads and trails to access dispersed camping sites and exploration) combined with the fact it's my wife's DD and it was a no-brainer to spring for it.
