Keep my 4x2 or get a 4x4

I currently have an 07 sr5 v6 4x2, and i really want to see the balls of these trucks, but i am to scared to go and spend the money on the lift and the wheels and tires, to then say I SHOULD'VE waited and got the 4x4... I want a 4x4, SR5, V6. I could do a swap at the dealership, not worried about the payments. Would love a Sport Ed. but they are way pricey and How much of a difference will the XREAS suspension make. How much of a lift could i go on a sport before i end up disconnecting the Xreas shocks??? decisions. decisions. What do you guys think?? What will make the best truck to do a lift on. the SR5 is a 4-6 grand diff in price. but man those interiors are SWEEET!!

If you use it in snow, or plan to wheel it, I say get the 4X4. It was never even an option for me, it was mandatory. It's not so much the height that plays a factor with Xreas. It's whether you want a real suspension, or a spacer lift. You can get up to 3" with spacers if you want to keep the Xreas, such as Cornfed or Daystar.
If you want a lift, while also upgrading the suspension, there is OME (which will give slightly over 3" in the front, and about 2.5" in the back), or you can go with a Coilover setup, which can be pricey. Sway-a-Way and Icon are the most popular, and you can adjust the height. I have my Xreas pulled with a new suspension, and also have my sway bar removed. Haven't even noticed that my Xreas is gone.

If I were purchasing and wanted a 'beefy', lifted 4x4 (or 4x2) I would skip paying for the SE. The SE is great but I'd want an OME lift as a good, good perfoming, inexpensive suspension setup. With the OME you lose the XREAS. The SE upgrade costs about what the OME kit does.

If 'cool', 'bang for the buck' etc are the goals I'd do the OME. If I had to have the SE I'd get the 'old style' Daystar 2.5/1.5 and be done with it. If money is not an issue and max performance is the goal Josh has the cool setup.

In terms of capability it probably breaksdown like this: Josh's setup is 1st choice, OME is next down, a spacer lifted XREAS equipped rig is 3rd. In terms of on-road I suspect the XREAS equipped rig would be a real step up from a non XREAS spacer equipped rig and almost as nice as the OME. (That's just my opinion FWIW.)

As far as 4x4 goes; in the NE it would be a 'must have' for me. In the SW USA maybe not. They get to have some good times with a 2wd pre-runner setup.

I'd go for the SR5 4x4 in your case. Take the money you save over the sport edition, get a real suspension lift (OME or coilovers), taller tires, and some fancy wet okole seat covers if you don't like the SR5 seats.

I think XREAS sucks. I paid extra for the sport and the suspension was soft and wobbled around a lot on corners. My brother and sister got motion sickness on a country road because of the weird motions the XREAS makes. The coilovers are way better in handling.

Up here there aren't many 2wd 4runners around. I like my v6 because I can use 2wd and get decent milage, and notice little or no performance drop when in 4wd.
I say get the 4x4 SR5 (biased here) if you want to mod it out, or a Limited without XREAS would be a good, but pricey choice.
