Kelly Blue book woes......

I bought my 4 runner to replace my 2003 VW Jetta. Now im trying to sell the jetta. The car is in perfect shape and well maintained. Here is the problem, I still owe money on it. SO I looked up the KBB value and the NADA value, split the difference and came up with my price. I have had 6 people call/email asking general questions about the car. They all bring up the fact that IM asking WAY too much for the car and offer me the KBB private party amount.(about 1k less than I owe on the car) Its so frustrating because the car is worth what IM asking, and no one seems to care that this car was babied and pampered. Doesnt that count for something? Why does KBB have the market for used car values? Why doesnt anyone value the NADA guide. Its like everyone only uses blue book..

Im thinking about taking my 4 runner and Jetta to the Toyota dealer and trading them both in on a 05 V8 Limited..... I dunno if I will come out good on that or not...

Lemme know what you guys think...

I remember you getting a good deal on your current 4runner so it may offset the gouging the dealership will give you on the jetta. don't expect the dealership to be nicer than those folks that called you.

i think im just going to stick to my price and maybe it will sell ... i dunno what else to do. THe payments not killing me, but I would like to see it gone. F'ing blue book.....

That is kind of like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. You would get hit on 2 vehicles depreciation instead of one. Plus, what the dealer gives you is basically wholesale, they may give you more and take away from another part of the deal.

If you can do it, it is best to sell the car yourself. You have to balance what you want, how long you can hang onto it and your money situation. I agree with you, stick to your price. If you can't get any bits over time, take a lower offer, but just a little.

I think you just have to luck up and have the right kind of buyer want your jetta. I personally do value the care given to a car that I'm interested in purchasing. The people doing the buying are out to get the car for the cheapest price they can get...regardless of pampering and extra care. But maybe you will luck up and get someone interested in the fact that you took really good care of the car...and is willing to pay the reasonable price you are asking :)

tell them..."if you can get another jetta in this good of a condition for cheaper, then go ahead...I'm sticking to my price because it is worth it..I'm not selling junk and I wont accept what you would pay for junk" ;) hehe...but of course thats just my attitude coming out

I smell what you're cookin' . . . . I tried to sell my '97 Rav4 privately for the KBB and Edmunds values and couldn't even get those because of the high mileage. I finally gave up and decided to trade it in. The dealer of course low-balled me but I basically didn't have a choice. You've got a few mods for your 4Runner already, but maybe taking the VW and the 4R back to the dealer to get a new one isn't a bad idea, assuming you won't need two cars in the near future . . . .
