the pioneer was a decent unit but I wanted blue tooth which is included in the ddx616. also the usb port in front just doesn't look very clean to me. I will add the garmin nav module later as well with the new kenwood. So it just seemed worth it to me.
 
One thing I might add is that it is also much easier to ground the parking brake wire with the kenwood and watch movies on the go than it is with the pioneer, if you're into doing that sort of thing, haha.

Also...the pioneer sounded pretty good, but my dad's $150 single din kenwood made his tundra sound much better than my pioneer made my 4runner sound. That probably isn't a fair comparison though.
 
I have the DDX514, and I've been happy with it so far. Only quibble is that the Dimmer settings seem to have no effect whatsoever. I just keep mine at a mid-low setting so it's not blinding at night.

Sound and features are great, especially with the Ipod and Sirius add-ons.
 
I'm splicing my wire harnesses as we speak! shouldn't take me more than 30 minutes to put in the 4runner. i'll try and have pics up later...I only have my cell phone for pics right now but you'll get the idea
 
Got it installed! I like this Unit much better than the pioneer. The only thing right now is that I can't get any sound from the Ipod. The information shows on the screen but just no sound. Everything is hooked up correctly. DVDs and CDs sound wonderful. The bypass worked and was easy. Just no sound from the Ipod. Does anybody know if the ddx requires the kenwood av cable for it to work?

Bluetooth works flawlessly!!!!

EDIT: Okay so apparently you need the av cable, the one with the usb and the video and out out jacks...went out and bought one from walmart...works like a charm! Sound quality is amazing as well.

^^ thanks but yea i explained that in my last post. I said i went and bought the cable from walmart but i meant best buy. i doubt that walmart sells the cable.
 
SO you pretty satisfied with the unit over all? My buddy at the stereo store offered me a smokin deal ($460) installed on this unit. SO I'm really thinking about getting it this week
 
yea i'm more than satisfied with it. Very easy to use, ipod works flawlessly, picture quality is very good, bluetooth works great (always connects to my LG Dare when i get into the car), sound quality very good with factory speakers. I'm about to put in some image dynamics ctx65cs speakers and amp them so should sound better.

Also I installed this myself and it was very simple. I'm sure you could do it to if you find a DIY thread, but 460 installed sounds like a pretty good deal.

PS: Get the Ipod cable that is needed for this unit! also I'm sure you already know but this unit is expandable for garmin navigation if you add the module. I already have a portable garmin but it's nice to know I can get in on my head unit too.

Kenwood DDX616

I'm also looking to buy the Kenwood DDX616. What peripherals did you need to get it installed...TYTO-01, ASWC, dash kit?
