I figured I would outline the installation of the Garmin GTM-10 traffic module.
I purchased a Kenwood DNX 7140 Nav system from a member on this board a year or so ago. I finally go around to adding the Garmin GTM-10 traffic module to it today. The GTM-10 is no longer produced by Gramin. I ran across an unopened box on Ebay for $50.
Today I took apart the dash, unpluged the FM antenna from the Kenwood unit and plugged it into the GTM-10. I then plugged the output of the GTM-10 into the pig tail coming from the Kenwood for the FM antenna. Finally, I plugged the mini USB cable into the back of the Kenwood from the GTM-10
When you power up the Kenwood and press the Nav button, it says "Updating Traffic software..." If you wait about 10 minutes the green light on the GTM-10 module is lit solid. This means it is receiving the FM traffic signal correctly.
It really makes a big difference when driving. Your route is color coded green, yellow, red similar to google maps. It also allows you to search for traffic incidents that are close to you.
It took me about 20 minutes to install, 3/4 of that was taking apart the dash and putting it all back...
It appears the 1st 1.5 years are free. After that I believe it costs only $30 a year or something... Well worth it to me.
