Kenwood Music Keg or other HDD options?

I have a small portable MP3 player (512mb), but I'd like to install a huge database in the 4R.

Anyone have any experience with the 20gb Kenwood Music Keg?

What about that Alpine HU model with the removable 16gb hard disk drive and USB port? Price seems right on that Alpine model.

Any opinions/suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

My brother put a 60gig Kenwood Music Keg in his TT Stealth.....he also put one in one of my grandfather's Lexus 430i My grandparents love it...they can drive from Atlanta to Philly and never hear the same song twice *haha* They love it and use it easily and they are in their 70's so that says something

Convenient...easy...and holds a LOT....I think you can get them pretty cheap now.

There are many options now days...many that will suit your mp3 music needs...if you wind up with a Kenwood Music Keg...you won't be disappointed

This is my plan as well. My wife a big music lover and she wanted to have her entire collection in her 4Runner. My first plan was to place a computer in her truck just as Rando. But I releazed the computer would have been over kill for what she wanted. So we have already purchased the head unit and will buy the Keg in a month. If you choose to go this route, I hope you love your choice.

Go with an Alpine HU with AI net with Alpine's Ipod controller and add the 40G Ipod. You can take the Ipod where ever you go.

The Alpine and Kenwood HDD's are over rated, slow and cumbersome.

Slow and cumbersome compared to.... the ipod? Or compared to a CD changer? I'd be satisfied if the thing loaded songs just faster than a 6 or 10 CD changer. Too bad that Alpine HDD doesn't have a radio built in.

Alpine & Ipod

The Ipod will work as the same principal as an HDD. A 40G Ipod will hold up 10000 songs. If you get the an AI net Alpine unit you are able to control the ipod directly from the HU. Plus you'll have the radio.

For people who truely want their complete collection in their cars, 60GB simply does not cut it. I have well over 200GB of music on my computer and hundreds of GB more that I regularly stream from the Internet. I'd really liket o get a 400GB drive in my car, but I dont really care about anything other than listening to music, so a CarPC is simply overkill. Any suggestions?

I don't have quite that size collection (yet), since I've only been BURNING ONLY: MP3's for a short while now..... Even 100G would be cool for me.... But at least a 1/4 of it needs to be removable so I can back up the files into my home PC. Some PC/memory manufacturers should jump on this concept, aye?!

I hear ya though: the auto PC seems too expensive, complicated, and waaay more than I need at this time. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have that capability, but it's overkill for this kid.

Alpine + iPod is definately the way to go. You can listen out of the car and have full control of the and text display on the HU itself
