Kenwood stereo keeps going into protect mode? HELP!!!

Hey guys, I have been having some on going issues with my Kenwood KDC-248U head unit. It went into protect mode about a month ago, I unplugged the radio, plugged it back in and it worked for about three weeks before it did it again. It has gotten progressively worse and now it seems to do it every few times I get into the truck. I bypassed the factory harness and ran all new speaker wire, constant power, key on power, and ground. I also had the battery tested- turned out it had a bad cell so I replaced it and that hasn't fixed my problem either. I've got the middle of my dash torn out because I have to unplug and plug in the radio pretty much every time I get in and start the truck. Once it is working, it doesn't go into protect mode once the truck is running, only seems to be an issue starting and turning off the truck. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Wondering if one of the speakers is getting a short in it?

Well they are brand new alpine type s speakers, just put them in. I would have thought if a speaker had a short it would put it into protect mode constantly and not work at all but when its working it usually stays working as long as the truck is running. It seems to mess up when i turn the truck off then back on but doesnt do it every single time.

Have you tried unplugging the speaker harness and running it that way? Also measure the input voltage when starting it. Does the head unit turn off when starting? I had installed a couple of Panasonic's back in the day, and every time you started the truck the units would shut off. I put in a start disconnect relay for the radio and they were happy. Just a thought.

I have a kenwood hu and also installed new speakers. The kenwood will only go into protect mode when there is a short in a speaker line. My rear door speakers were causing the problem. The connectors on the speaker where you connect the speaker wires was touching/grounding on part of the door. All I did was spin the speaker a quarter of the way around so that connector wasn't touching and everything works great. Just disconnect the front or rear speakers and try to power up the hu. I's will work when the grounded channel is unplugged. I'm betting you have the same problem I did? Good luck.

I had that error a few weeks back but had no idea where the short was from- stupid question but did you remove the faceplate and reset it? That's what I did and I let it sit for awhile...
Sounds too easy but hey every little bit helps :/

ya i have tried resetting it with the reset button and it doesnt do anything, i have to actually unplug the harness and plug it back in. And im gonna try disconnecting all my speakers and then plugging them in one by one and see if that changes anything, hopefully its something simple like that.
