Good morning!

I searched and posted on an existing thread but got no reply:

I have lost my main key (black plastic) and just have the valet key

(2007 ltd w keyless entry)

QUESTION; can i order a new key off ebay/amazon and use the valet key to program the new master? (I also have the key "code") as well.

Thanks much!

I appreciate the reply. I did see this thread, the other thread i was in said it had to be a master key, then someone else chimed in that either a valet or master would work.

From what I'm reading, I"m guessing that both keys have same electronics, just physically different (valet only opening glove box)

Soooo, as long as I only care about making the car run (and not locking the glove box) I am good to go? If I want to get a new master, i need to go to dealer with the key code?

Um a valet key should NOT be able to open the glove box. That's the whole point, a valet can run the car but no go through the glove box contents.

Can you open your glove box with the key you have left?

If you can, do the following

1. Take the new key and one master key that can start your 4runner(old key) into the 4runner with you and close the driver's door.(immobilizer light should be blinking)

2. Insert old key, remove old key, Insert old key, remove old key,
Insert old key, remove old key, Insert old key, remove old key,
Insert old key (immobilizer light should be off from the first insertion)

3. open and close driver's door six times (immobilizer light should be off)
Step 2 and 3 need to be done in less than 35 seconds(pdf says 35 seconds)

4.remove the old key. (immobilizer light should come on(steady on, not blinking))

5. insert the new key(immobilizer light should be blinking)

Then just sit there and wait, after about one minute the blinking immobilizer light should go off and you're done.

Sorry, I meant that the key i have (GREY) does NOT open the glove box. So will this allow me to program as above (for a new master?)
