key will not turn to accessory position no key works just stuck....

I have 2 worn out keys and a brand new vin cut one nothing works at all, I tried hitting the key with a rubber mallet and messed with it until I got a blister on my finger and a bent up key now the problem is I have to get it to accessory to get the tumbler to replace it and no matter what i tried it will not budge plus its a limited so the key has an "chip" so not sure if a parts store replacement will work or not?

I am open to suggestions on this and my searches show that worn tumblers are common in these.

My key was bent and almost worn flat when I got our 97. Drivers door lock didn't work at all.

Had a new key cut off the code and for each lock I sprayed brake cleaner in lock then worked key in and out to free up the tumblers. Then tried turning it. Also more spray and some CRC spray lube. It took time but I got all locks to operate with the new key but the drivers door. For that lock I had to remove the lock and take it apart. Freeing up all the tumblers with brake cleaner then reassemble the lock. Now all locks operate smooth as butter. And dealer told me I only had a 20% chance of my fresh key working because the lock worn to the key. Not really. The worn key sticks the tumblers from brass shavings.

I had the same problem. Both keys were worn and the tumbler was also warn. Took the tumbler to a locksmith. He fixed it and cut new keys.

Did you wiggle the steering wheel?

I know it's stupid question, but you didn't mention if you did or not.

I had the same issue a month ago. I I know I am going to replace the ignition lock cylinder I used a flat screw driver and attached it to a wise grip. Used all my force to turn it to ACC. then insert a pin right under the cylinder lock to pull it out (see video). Got a replacement ignition cylinder lock and two keys on ebay for $23 with shipping and bam.. all is good now. I got a 97.

The chipped keys have a wire loom that is located in the plastic circular piece that fits over the lock it is not the actual lock tumbler so no it does not matter it's the clear piece that lights up with the other lights
