Thanks for this info...I just bought a 2011 SR5 and just realized a month after buying it the key doesn't even fit into the driver side door :/ glad it's not just ne

reactivating old thread! I have this issue now too, driver side only, and it's after my car has been sitting for a couple months with a dead battery. Hatch lock works fine, but the driver side does not. It does not seem like its a lube/something stuck issue, but maybe intentional alarm related "feature?"

Put powered graphite on your key several times and work it in the lock. Powered graphite is an excellent lubricating lock cylinders.

Thanks, just ordered "Pinewood Pete Graphite Lube Powder - Great on Pinewood Cars, Locks, Guns and More." Will report back on Thurs.

Going to take a little moving to get it lubed. However, that is all I use in my locks.

Does it only turn one way, or neither way?
These locks have the half pins in them so if your key gets a little worn or the lock pins are worn then you can get in a situation where the lock only turns 1 direction.

First move is to lube.
Second move is to take your title to the dealer and have them cut you a set of keys from the vin number.

Yes Diesel is correct as mine has always been solved being lubricated. As long as you lock cylinder locks were never changed the build sheet cut key off the VIN will be a good sharp key.

Some dealers may need title to verify ownership of the rig as well.

I’m also having a similar problem with my 03 4Runner. Unbeknownst to me, my keys fell out of the pouch pocket on my sweatshirt and after finding them, someone ran over them with their truck and damaged the fob. After work, I pushed the unlock button and the alarm went off. I tried to use the key to unlock the doors and the drivers side wouldn’t turn at all. I tried the hatch and the key would turn but not unlock the car. Everything worked fine when I left home this morning. Any suggestions on how to unlock it?

Thought I'd start a new thread, since I can't modify the title of this related thread:

My master key (with transponder) will not turn the driver door lock. The lock just resists any motion to the left or right. I've tried alcohol (lock de-icer), electronics cleaner, and graphite with no success. I'm starting to think this is an electronic problem, as the door lock is actually what Toyota calls an "electromagnetic" system.

Anyone had this happen before? Luckily, my fob still unlocks the doors, and the inside door lock switch works...but I want to be able to use the key if necessary.

Important to note - the key does work in the passenger door lock and the rear hatch lock.

I’m having similar problems. I notice that

- driver door yours right to unlock and not left to lock
-passenger front turns both ways and will lock and unlock the whole car including the liftgate.
-liftgate works fine
- intermittent issues with locking using the button on the drivers side door, most but not all doors lock (usually the passenger front door and sometimes the passenger back door don’t lock all the way)
- I do not have a fob even though I believe the 99 Ltd came with one.

If anyone has any other advice let me know!
