Keyfob question?

I work at a used car dealership and found several different toyota keyfobs lying around. I currently don't have one and im not sure if my 4runner had that option from the factory. My first question is what ID# will work for a 2000 4runner? My next question is if I find the right one will it even work for a 4 cylinder base model??? Any help would be great! Thanks!

The FCC ID is HYQ1512Y, and if you need the programming instructions I have them in my truck, I will scan them tomorrow evening when my new scanner arrives and email them to ya if you want. What dealership are you at, I'm up in Harrisonburg.

Yea after searching for a bit i was able to find them. Now I just need to find a right keyfob...

true to that statement, i had to do it about 7 times before it worked, and if you have any extra FOB's laying around I could use an extra!

I must have gone through the process 20 times before it finally worked.

OP, if you need a FOB, you can also get them on ebay. I think they are usually about $30. That's where I got mine and it works great. That said, be careful as I have heard not so great experiences with FOB's on ebay as well.

OP - I assume your truck has power locks. That's step one. Then, is there a security LED built into the dash in the center console? If not, you don't have the factory installed option (which uses the 3-button remote - lock, unlock, rear window). Next, is there a security LED elsewhere with a label "SECURITY" above or below it? Maybe to the left of the steering column? If so, you probably have the RS3000 dealer-installed option, which uses a 2-button remote.

If you don't have either of those things, you likely won't get anywhere with a key fob. Give us some more info on what your truck has.

so when I bought my T4R earlier this year it only came with 1 key. I since bought 2 on ebay and had them cut, and they work great(no chip obviously). But I do have auto lock, although I can only initiate it with my key. I would love to get a FOB to do this work for me. I have looked on ebay, just not sure. And NAPA only has the shell, I know I will need to program it too. Help is appreciated.

This is incorrect. Lots of '99-'02 trucks, including mine, came from the factory with no alarm/security system but WITH wireless door locks. (Some late '98's as well.) That system used the HYQ1512Y four button remote: Lock,Unlock, Rear Window plus Panic on the back. The factory system 'brain' is built in into the Body ECU and the wireless receiver into the Back Door ECU. The only visible evidence is the chirper doohickey on the passenger fender in the back corner almost to the firewall. It looks like this:

If you have the LED security light in a 2000+, that may be the factory system with alarm or it may be the RS3200 which is NOT factory. Those were dealer or port-installed options, but they still use the same HYQ1512Y. (1999 and earlier alarms were the RS3000--also port/dealer ONLY--and used either the grey or black 2-button remote depending on year.)

Bottom line, in a 2002: First see if you have either the chirper or a security LED, then get the black 4-button HYQ1512Y fob. It works with all three systems: factory wireless with or without alarm, and add-on RS3200. There were other versions on other Toyotas that look the same with different FCC numbers--those won't work.(Stay away from ones with a trunk lid on the third button unless you are sure of FCC number--you want the one with a rear window.)

Sorry I am reviving this but I just found the chirper on my 2000, bout to order these fobs https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KTHYCEO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (2 for $20 seems like a great deal) but was wanting the full “look”. Do you happen to know if having the chirper means you have the factory installed option or the rs3000? I want to get the right security light showing it’s active when active or would either work? I did notice under the fuse panel in the cab there is a pig tail or 2 just sitting there waiting to be plugged into something!

Having the chirper just means you have wireless door locks; it says nothing about security. If you have a chirper but no light, odds are you have wireless locks but no security system so just adding the light will be no help.

i have a 1999 limited. i have the chirper and on toyota.com the stuff listed that came with the truck was a convenience package that says wireless entry. I dont have a security light. i have tried million times manual and just the button i can never get into programming mode.

i replaced the driver actuator because it was slow. the other doors stop working after two or three unlocks. would they matter?

also when i first bought it there was a code for incorrect code on body ecu or something but i forgot what it actually said as i cleared it. i have what looks like an original key. clear title.

i then looked in the back and the orange box in the door and it was there but missing the bracket that holds it to the door? could this have been replaced and wont communicate with something to get into programming mode, this whole keyfob thing is pissing me off and i cannot find anybody with a similar problem.

As said earlier, try try again. I got a fob in the junkyard for free-fitty (found it in a wrecked late model 3rd gen). First time I tried it, the car acted as if it were in programming mode, and it would respond to the fob, so I knew it was transmitting. But as soon as you left programming mode, it would ignore it. I did it perhaps 4 times in a row, same results. Gave up for a while.

Then, and sorry, I forget where, I found some slightly more complete programming instructions that included how to reset the system and clear any previous fobs that have been paired (I think there's a limit of how many can pair, maybe 4?).

I tried that (nothing to lose since the car didn't come to me with any fobs) and voila, the fob started working.

There might be an issue if you have slow/weak door locks, since parts of the programming require locking and unlocking the doors - lazy or slow or failing actuators on some of the doors might stop that step from being logically completed.

well i replaced the drivers slow actuator. the others are the slow ones and from reading you can manually move it up and down, so the others shouldn't matter i guess. i have tried doing it fast and slow this is ridiculous.

So I would need to source a RS3000 and the light and make sure I have the wiring in place? I got the remote the other day and was able to program them so I have lock, unlock and window roll down now!
