This may have been covered elsewhere, but after extensive searching and calls to two different dealerships, I need some clarification.
I currently own a 2003 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition. It came with one keyless entry fob which I lost a few weeks ago.
After reviewing TSB EL010R-07, the correct key fob for the 2003 4Runner uses FCC ID: HYQ 12 BAN.
I hen ordered this key fob. I've attempted to program this key fob more than 50 times with no success. I am able to get to the last step which indicates that if the locks cycle twice, then the key fob was not programmed to the vehicle. I have not located any other literature that indicates whether or not this could also mean that this is the incorrect key fob.
After attempting this key fob programming, I called the local Toyota dealership. After giving the employee in the parts department my vehicle year and model, he retrieved the part and indicated that the correct FCC ID is: HYQ 12 BBX.
According to the TSB mentioned above, HYQ 12 BBX is the correct FCC ID for a 2004 - 2007 Toyota 4Runner.
From the various sites that show programming steps, they are the same for 2003 and 2004 Toyota 4Runners.
Before spending any more money on key fobs...
1. Is there a way to determine the correct key fob FCC ID by VIN?
2. Is there a new TSB released that supercedes the one mentioned above that has different information?
3. Are the programming instructions for both FCC IDs the same?
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
