Keyless Entry Programming Issues

I had previously posted in the “What you did today” page since I was new and couldn’t create a new post, but I have hit the minimum so I can create new posts now.

From previous:
It is a 1998 limited
It’s a grey remote from remotes.com
I have un programmed the old remotes
And have been trying to program new ones

I dont hear a chirp when erasing the old one but do hear a few clicks coming from somewhere. Is there anything else I should check? I’ve read the other posts but I don’t see any troubleshooting steps.

I’m normally pretty good at this type of stuff, so I’m not sure what I could be doing wrong especially since these instructions seem so simple.

Thanks for the help

Your better off buying a used one from eBay.

96 to 98 should be black.

I bought two black remotes from Remotes with the same fcc number as mine and neither would connect. Both transmitted something because I went to the local autozone and used their remote tester.

Talking to them they said they should be for my 97. Their reviews were hit or miss for them programming correctly.

I ended up buying a used one. It programmed on the first try.

You beeper needs replaced.

Where is the beeper?

I got 2 so maybe one will work.

Everything I read said 1998 needed grey.

Piezo chirper is small and wrapped in foam. Foam is held on with zip tie and zipped to hood release cable on the side of the battery

Besides what PJ said there is a recent thread on buying a new one from amazon. I did replace mine and it’s cheep and easy and now it chirps everytime. My 1997 SR5 Build and Repair thread should have the part number. If not I’ll post the amazon link.

I’m 99% certain the RS3000 was a 96-98 VIP alarm mounted under the drivers seat. I’ve never owned a 98 to confirm it. However, in the 99 and up models they included the alarm in the ECU and started using the gray FOB.

Someone with a 98 can chime in on the FOB color and if the RS3000 is under the seat.

Searching in google there is a lot of wrong info about the color of the FOBs and years.

Thanks everyone for their help.

I had ordered 2 and I guess the first one I grabbed was a dud.
I went ahead and tried to program the second and it worked the first time.

I guess I'll get ahold of the seller and see if they will replace the bad one.

What is the part number for the "chirper" 19963.4lsr5 I tried looking for it in your build and couldn't find anything.
