I've searched high and low it seems and I haven't seen anyone who knows whether the later toyota key with the built in key fob will work with our 3rd gen 4runners. I know the key is the same and will fit into the ignition and door locks which would make it pretty cool to have since you could eliminate the key fob. I guess what I am asking is whether the remote part of the key is programmable to our factory alarm?

Only the original key FOBs work. Anything designed for the 4th gen and newer is different. Even the 96-98 fobs are different than the newer 3rd gens.
