Keyless entry standard on Sport edition?

I just picked up a 2002 SR5 Sport Edition 4wd, absolutely love it! I bought it from the original owner, however he didn't give me the keyless entry, just 3 regular hard keys. I knew from reading 4-ripcord's amazing 3rd gen buyers guide (my bible during my search process) that the Sport editions had keyless entry standard.

Was it possible this 4runner never came with it, or did the original owner lose they key fobs? If he lost the key fobs do I have any options other than going to the dealership? Thanks for any help!

I can't comment on if they come standard or not. I too just bought a Sport Package 2001 from the original owner and it also did not have a keyless remote. Based RipCords buyers guide and I ordered a fob off eBay for $20 shipped to my door. It will be here on Thursday so I can let you know if it works for me at that time.

Here is the fob I bought. I thought for $20 it was worth a try.

Attached is the 2002 FSM section on programming keyless entry. The easiest way to see if it is installed is go through confirmation mode and see if the truck responds as described. If it does, your options are dealer, eBay for used, eBay and elsewhere for aftermarket. If it doesn't, you don't have it. The guts are buried in the liftgate so this is the easiest way.

Can some 2002 owner post back the correct FCC ID number? Any replacement must have the correct FCC number. Warning: I understand Suburu fobs with the same FCC number do not work; must be Toyota.

Awesome, thanks guys! I appreciate the help, I will check and see if mine did have keyless entry, and if so I'll be ordering that $20 fob. Much better than going to the dealership.
 
I have an extra

I bought one for a 2002 Sport a few weeks ago because I was about to buy a truck and the owner didn't have any remotes for it. It ended up falling through and I bought a 2000 Ltd instead (that has 2 remotes) so I have an extra that I'll sell you for <$20. PM me if you're interested and I can send you the FCC ID that's on it etc. as I'm at work now.

Man that was cool, I followed those instructions you posted for the confirmation process and it worked. Thanks man! Evidently there are 2 codes stored for my 4runner, I'll ask the seller but I'll probably end up buying one.

I got the transmitter from BigRig, thanks! I tried to utilize the procedure listed here generously by Durk, everything worked great (I was using the "add" function and my T4R confirmed add mode was selected by cycling the locks once). However, it didn't take, and gave me the: LOCK-UNLOCK occurs twice, which means the registration of recognition code has not been completed: Recognition code received first time and second time did not match (see circled portion of the instructions).

Anyone encounter this or have an idea of what to do next? Is my key fob the correct FCC ID? I imagine it would be since it was able to recognize it, but I'm not sure how to proceed. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Glad you got the fob! I ordered it and ended up not needing it (deal fell through and I ended up buying another truck that had both remotes), so I can't confirm that it actually worked.

It may need a battery, not sure if there's any way to confirm that its transmitting a signal or not. If it ends up not working (outside of needing a new battery) let me know and I'll definitely refund the $ you paypal'd me.

Oh no man it definitely works, thanks! During the programming process it recognized the signal, but for some reason it cycled the locks twice indicating that the recognition code did not match between the first and second times that I used the transmitter. I'm not sure what that means and I was just looking for some advice. Thanks for the great deal on the fob, is there any way to leave feedback on this site?
 
I guess I should rephrase my question since I worded it poorly. Does anyone know what the error code that I circled via MS Paint in the picture I posted a few posts above means (doors lock/unlock twice after attempting to register a new transmitter)? Any clues on how I can fix it or if I'm doing the procedure wrong? Thanks for any help!
 
I was in the same situation - my use 02 SR5 from private sale did not come with a keyless fob.

I tried to order a few online, but none worked. I ended up going to the dealership, they had a new one ready to go and programmed in an hour. Yeah, it cost over a hundred bucks, but the dealership got the job done.
 
My 2000 SR5 SE didn't have one either but the $20 one from ebay works perfectly. It was a little tricky to get the vehicle into program mode but figured it out and been great since. From what I can tell it is nearly identical to the OE fob.
 
Did you only try it once? Give it a few tries. All you have to do is go too slowly or too quickly and the system chokes.

Also, try not using ADD mode. Use Rewrite.
