Keyless entry system quit working entirely

The entire keyless entry system on my 2000 4Runner quit working the other day. I’ve tested and it’s not the remotes or a weak battery. There’s something with the system itself. My mechanic did some testing and can’t find the problem. I don’t want to take it to the dealership until I can do what I can to isolate the problem to avoid their diagnostic charges. Any suggestions on what to check are appreciated.

Honestly if you are going to take it to the dealership I would just take it to your local car stereo place and have them put an aftermarket alarm on it. Cheaper and more reliable than the dealership
